My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Vigo is a handsome 2 1/2 yr old black male with natural ears and a docked tail. Vigo was regrettably surrendered to our program. Nervous and unsure at first, it took this boy a matter of mere days to realize that his infinite love and devotion could be directed toward his foster parents as easily as it was his previous family. He may need a little bit of time to transition into another home with his forever human family. Vigo has taken the term "Velcro Doberman" to new heights! He has a talent for squirming his way into tiny spaces or creating a space if it means he can be next to (or on top of) his people. Vigo is not permitted on the furniture but has exploited a little known loophole. If he climbs ON TOP OF his human while they are on the furniture, his body never technically touches the furniture. Vigo is not a reactive youngster, and we would gauge his energy level at moderate. We think he is so calm because his mind is constantly preoccupied with how he can get more pets, more often. One hand on him isn't acceptable, he much prefers both hands on him at all times and will lovingly paw at the non-functioning hand until it is on him as well. He is a non-stop kisser, it's as if he can't contain his limitless love and devotion. Vigo's love language may be too much for small children, he does not comprehend the idea of personal space.

Vigo is currently being walked twice a day and has experimented with some short runs, showing promise as a running partner. He does quite well while wearing his Gentle Leader and has been non-reactive with dogs and humans he sees while out and about, squirrels and rabbits, however are not given the same courtesy. The boy has a bit of a prey drive! Vigo gets along great with other dogs in the house and is also cat friendly. His foster parents are working on his affinity for stealing food, so far, they are down 3 bananas, one pancake and a ramekin of ranch dressing. This should be an easy fix once he realizes that not stealing food earns him attention while stealing food gets him his food but is followed by a lack of human attention. Attention and praise seem to be an incredible motivator for his boy, making him a dream to train and shape behaviors with. He is very quiet in the home, which is a bonus for his current gig as a food thief, and he has very good house manners. We cannot communicate enough the sensitive nature of Vigo and his level of neediness, he wants nothing more in life than to be next to, in view of, or on top of, his family with a strong preference for the latter.
