My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Aroooo! Athena is now available for adoption!

Athena is a gorgeous cream and tan pyr with a calm and loving demeanor. She arrived in rescue several months ago, severely neglected and scared. Since then, she’s blossomed into a happy housedog that loves to shower affection on her humans, go for walks, and receive belly rubs and nose scritches.

This beautiful lady walks well on leash using a body harness, knows several commands, and will be sure to alert you when the mail arrives! She is a typical pyr-- kind and gentle with cats and polite children, but can be a bit territorial with other dogs, especially females. For this reason, she must be slowly and methodically introduced to any other dogs in her adoptive home, and would likely do best with a mellow male companion.

Medically, she is overall healthy! She does have allergies, but they are well-controlled with a monthly bath, food, and low dose of allergy medication. She displays excellent manners at the groomer or during home “spa day,” allowing all brushing, ear cleaning, nail grinding, and tooth brushing without complaint or concern. She loves to the brushed, and will even bring you her brush to request this attention!

Athena loves to sun herself in the backyard, as well as go for a morning and evening patrol of the premises. For her comfort and safety, she must have a securely fenced area in which to relax and play.

Athena would do best in a home with another mellow male dog, and humans that love walks and appreciate a porch pal. Polite, dog-savvy children over the age of five, and/or cats are a plus but not required. Could you be the pyrrrfect fit for the lovely lady? Please contact NorthStar Great Pyrenees Rescue with any inquires!

An adoption application, site visit, secure visible fencing, and an adoption fee are required to adopt Athena.
