My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I'm Mia. I'm a sweet and silly six month old German Shepherd/black lab mix who was found as a stray along with my brother and some other pups in a southern part of Illinois until Canines & Company welcomed us into their rescue program. I missed out on some socialization in my early life, but I am making up for that quickly with the trainers at Found Training Center.

I go to daycare daily and hang with other dogs and have been doing great! I really like other dogs and my trainers feel it would be awesome if my new home had a dog friend in it to show me what it's like to be confident and learn all that is "dog." I LOVE toys and enjoy a good game of tug. I also enjoy working for food and I am learning how to do some basic agility stuff, which is pretty cool. I've also been learning about leash walking, exposure to new objects, and have begun obedience skills, like "sit," "down," and "place." My adoption fee comes with a FREE group course at Found Training Center, so my new family can learn about me and what I can do. I have been introduced to a crate and potty training, and my trainers say I'm doing well for a pup my age. I was a good girl for my cat test and I'm gentle with children.

I can be shy with new people, but warm up quickly as long as you're patient and have some snacks on you. When I am comfortable in an environment, I get my "wiggle" on, especially if there are other dogs around. I absolutely LOVE to cuddle once I warm up and make friends with you. I truly enjoy a good booty scratch. I'm a sweet girl, just looking for a place where I can flourish and learn as I grow. I would love a family who will challenge me and teach me all kinds of new things and new places, since I'm smart and love to learn. Bonus points if you've previously owned a German Shepherd, since I have a lot of shepherd-y traits like being talkative.

To meet me, please fill out an application or email brittney@caninesandcompany.org for more info.
