My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sorcha is a 3.5-year-old black female with silky, natural ears. She is petite but very athletic and full of affection for her humans. She loves to stretch her legs and run around a large, fenced yard. At night, she loves to curl up for some couch snuggles and stares into your eyes with her big, gorgeous, brown eyes. She was turned in because her owner is terminally ill, and the family could no longer care for her. She is good with dogs she has been properly introduced to and used to live with a boxer mix with no problems. She also lived with a pet bird, chickens, and turkeys with no reported issues. She was raised in a family with young children and lives with children in her foster home, but she does mouth a lot for play and therefore should not be placed with very young children. She is working on learning that this is not acceptable in her foster home and is gradually learning to give kisses on hands instead. She is housebroken and crate trained, though she whines a little bit when put in her crate if her people are going out. She calms down quickly to nap or chew on a big Nylabone. Of course, she prefers lounging on the couch or a bed when her humans are around!
Sorcha is a little afraid of strange noises or unfamiliar faces at night, but she calms down once she knows everything is fine and is improving quickly in her foster home. She needs to work on her leash manners but is improving with her foster family during backyard practice. Sorcha definitely needs slow introductions to new people, especially those entering her home. New people make her nervous, but she is very sweet and affectionate once she is comfortable and familiar. She is working on getting used to the idea of neighbors and pets living on the other side of a fence from her yard and will definitely alert you to anyone approaching. She does not have any food or toy guarding issues or problems being touched anywhere by someone familiar. She listens well to a few commands but must continue her training to blossom into her best-mannered self. A training requirement will be a part of her adoption contract.
She is smart and motivated by treats, praise, and play time with her squeaky toys. Squeaky toys make her so happy! She LOVES to chase a ball to work those long legs and treat challenges like a Kong are fun for her to defeat. Sorcha doesn’t counter surf but loves to sniff around the human food hoping to score an unattended treat. She doesn’t jump on people and takes treats very nicely. Sorcha is healthy, spayed and up to date on all shots. She can’t wait to meet a forever family that will give her all the cuddles, outdoor playtime, and patient training she needs!
