My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

So, Muffy finally got to see the cardiologist and the news is ... not good.

She has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and 3rd degree AV block (which means that parts of her heart are not getting the electrical signals that they should).

She's been prescribed medication, but there is no solid prognosis for how long or how well she can live with these two conditions together.

Muffy could live another year - maybe two. Or she could die tomorrow. The vet wants to see her in two weeks to evaluate how she's doing on the new medication.

After that, we have a choice - do we try adopting Muffy out as a hospice cat? She would need a quiet home with no other cats (they stress her) and someone who will not only give her her medication, but also accepts the fact that every day will be a coin toss as to whether or not she'll make it to the next one.

Or, we can keep her as an office cat. She'll get her meds, she'll have windows and toys and people to gently love on her every day.

After all her years working as a Comfort Cat at the rehab center, kicked out of there by new management, adopted, returned, diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, treated with radioactive iodine, fostered for months, then fostered again for her cardiology visit, then back to the shelter... we think that Muffy deserves to FINALLY retire to one place for the rest of her days, however many of those she has.

And living out her life as an office cat would be a well-earned retirement! She'll get love and attention and have her own big room with sunshine and no other animals to stress her and no stairs or anything too physically challenging for her.

But if you think you may know someone who would be absolutely perfect for her and would take her home and love her like their own, can you please tell them about Muffy?

We know it's a tall order - most people who are willing to take on a cat with a severe health condition like this already have other cats (or barky dogs or young, excitable kids or whatever isn't conducive to a quiet, unstressed home), but we don't want to rule out the possibility, just in case!

Otherwise, all good thoughts sent Muffy's way will surely be appreciated!

Thank you!
