My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jack Russell Terrier Mix | Female | 18 lbs | 8 years old | Canadian Shelter Dog
#emptyontarioshelters
*UPDATED BIO!

Temperament: Adventurous, playful, sweet.
Activity level: Jilly is quite active! For 8 years old, this girl has lots of bouncy, playful energy.
Vetting: Vaccinated (core vaccines and Bordetella); 4dx bloodwork negative for heartworm & three tick borne diseases (Ehrlichia/Anaplasma and Lyme); Fecal (negative), dewormed; flea/tick/heartworm prevention given; microchipped, spayed. Dental preformed in 2018 but has some mild tarter on teeth. Had skin and ear infection when rescued but she is 100% perfect now! She does eat a hypoallergenic diet currently and is on allergy medication.
Housebroken: Yes! But would benefit from frequent potty breaks for the first little while to ensure she stays on track during any transitions.
Good with Dogs? Great! She lives with a lab and gets along very well with her!
Good with Cats? Not tested.
Good with Children? No kids.
Separation anxiety: Had some mild separation anxiety originally but is great now! She loves being left a few treats when you leave and will just sit in her bed and eat them.
Crate trained: Sleeps calmly in her crate overnight.
Resource guarding: Resource guards food, treats, toys and humans with other dogs when in her first foster home but no resource guarding with humans. Currently, in her new foster home she is not resource guarding.
Leash etiquette & reactivity: Very calm and doesn’t tug but gets excited when she sees squirrels and birds. She can be easily redirected with a firm "no" and doesn't tug/pull towards them. Jilly doesn't seem to mind the sounds of the city - she isn't skittish outside and hasn't shown any nervousness while on walks.
Barky/noisy: Vocal when excited - when she sees a new dog, when a new friend arrives at the home, or sometimes when she's playing. Her bark is very cute and playful!
Good with transit: Great in car! Loves laying down in the back or watching the world go by through the window.
*Bio may change as we get to know her better.
*Behavioural assessment available upon request.
*Comes with 6 weeks of health insurance totalling $500.

World, meet Jilly, a sweet & determined senior lady who knows what she wants and how to get it. And what she wants is simple: the company of her human(s), head scratches, toys to play with, new people to meet and lots of walks and outside time.

This social lady would love a family that is home during the day, or that would bring her to the office. Either way, she loves being around her own people and meeting new people; after all, new friends are just more people to give her the attention she deserves! As for dogs, while she’s friendly, she needs to be introduced properly and slowly. A home where she is the only dog or with a calm/chill dog would make her the most comfortable and give her the opportunity to get ALL of the attention.

As an active senior, Jilly gets a few walks a day. She loves to play, run around and get lots of attention. And when it comes to exercising her brain, she would definitely benefit from some training with her new owners to learn how to sit, stay, and come. Basic command training would be an opportunity to improve her listening skills and bond her with her new furever family. She’ll learn fast – you CAN teach a middle-aged dog new tricks, especially one as smart as Jilly.
Did you notice how many times the word “attention” appears in this bio? That’s because love and attention is what Jilly adores and what she deserves! If Jilly sounds like the kind of lady you’d love to give attention to and receive her love and attention in return, contact adopt@covetedcanines.org or apply at: covetedcanines.org/application
