My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This adorable little fella is Sly. He is a 9 pound, almost 2 year old, male Maltese, Yorkie, broken coated Jack Russell mix. He came to us from a hoarding situation. He had spent the first 12 months of life living in a basement in an
x- pen with a number of other dogs. He didn't have a clue about living in a house, about being shown affection. But underneath that scaredy cat exterior was a sweet pup that just wanted to be loved. Well, he has been that and he has decided that life is good and loads of fun! Be sure to watch his video!

It's been almost a year and Mr. Sly has come along way from that basement. He is one SUPER little guy! He is a major love bug, loves to race around the farm, go for walks. He loves other dogs and really loves kitties. Sly is with you every minute, comes when he's called, VERY crate trained, is house trained, leash trained, fine in the car and adores his people.

Sly might be shy when he first moves. His foster home is all that he has ever know but he will quickly bond with his new family. He wants to please and be loved. He is a bit standoffish with men at first so a woman caretaker is necessary. Sly would not be a good candidate for children, not because of any aggression but he does not know how to respond to them and would not be a fun dog for kids to have. Sly needs adults to continue to offer him good experiences that will build his confidence. He needs a quiet, calm, adult home that ONLY uses positive reinforcement training.

Now that Sly is ready for that final step, he will need a well socialized, friendly, happy dog in the home, a fenced area that leads directly into the house and someone who is not away from home a typical 8 hour work day. He needs someone to adore him! Come and meet Sly. I'm sure you'll fall in love!

Adopters must live within a 2 hour drive from Wooster OH which includes The Cleveland and Columbus areas.

Star-Mar Rescue is a natural care provider and we place our dogs in homes that are already on a natural care program or are eager to learn. We use no chemicals on our dogs, no commercial flea products (oral or topical), do blood titers instead of randomly vaccinating. Our yards are without fertilizer and weed killer and our homes are toxin free. We feel that dogs can be protected without being harmed by harsh chemicals and unnecessary vaccinations and do best on a species appropriate, no grain, raw diet. Frozen raw diets, freeze dried or dehydrated no grain. Raw, no grain foods are easily gotten at many pet stores and on line and are no more expensive than a high quality dry food. This simple step will provide your dog the nutrition needed to keep them healthy and happy for many years unlike feeding a lifetime of processed foods. We are happy to help with this transition. For more information go to Star-Mar Rescue Natural Care facebook page and click on "videos" in the column to the left and watch the 7 part series called The Truth About Pet Cancer. It will give you an understanding of what we are doing and why. Please do some research on natural care and raw feeding and decide whether or not you are wanting to care for Sly in this manner before requesting an application.

If you feel that your lifestyle and environment meet with Sly's needs, please directly contact Martha at learymjri@aol.com or call 330-466-3667 or 330-262-0515 for an application or more information. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE LINK PROVIDED AS IT IS NOT ALWAYS RELIABLE. Sly's adoption will require an approved application and a home visit, with adoption completed at his foster home in Wooster, OH. Sly's adoption fee is $275. We will work to place him within a 1.5 hour driving distance from his foster home in Wooster, OH. so that we can conduct a home visit bringing Sly with us. This area includes the Columbus, Cleveland area of OH.
