11/20/09 - Lexi is doing GREAT!! She went in and had some masses removed that were thankfully benign! Prior to this surgery she started having trouble with her back leg, so the doctor repaired her knee while he had her under. The muscle was continually contracting and wasn't in the right place. So the doctor moved it over and repaired her patella and she is doing fantastic since! She almost never bent her knee, but now she can bend it whenever she wants to! It is doing so much better than before the surgery. Lexi is still happy as ever and loves to give lots and lots of yorkie kisses!

10/12/09 - Lexi is doing well! She went back to see the oncologist last week about a strange hard line that has appeared from one of the tumors left. She doctor took cell samples and has sent them off to the pathologist for review. They also extracted cells from another questionable area to see what it comes back as, but it could be from her hernia repair which was close by the area. We will hopefully get the results soon.

8/3/09 - The oncologist called with some good news! They couldn't find evidence of lymphatic spread with the tumors that were checked, so there is no need to do chemo or anything else at this point. We will just watch her for any new tumors to appear. This is a relief for precious little Lexi!!

7/28/09 - Lexi is doing very well!! Last week we went to see the oncologist to see what their thoughts were on the tumors that have been removed since some were cancer and others were not and a group of them looked to be a chain of tumors stemming from one of the mammary glands. They did an ultrasound of her belly to make sure her lymph nodes looked good and had not been impacted, and that is exactly what they found. They also checked her heart since she has a slight heart murmur and one side is slightly enlarged. The cardiologist said that at this time she does not need any medicine for that and it is just something to monitor at this point. We are waiting for the results from the oncologists pathologist to see if they come back with anything different before we determine if there is anything we need to do right now, or if we just need to monitor her going forward for any new tumors. Everyone fell in love with her at the specialists office, they even put a bow in her hair and put a bandana on her. Lexi is a very sweet little girl that just loves to receive attention and kiss you all over. She loves to chew on bones and toys. Please consider adding Lexi to your family, she can't wait to have a furever family of her own!

6/29/09 - Lexi had her tumors removed on 6/18. There weren't as many as originally thought and they were spread among the two strands of mammary glands, so the doctor decided to just remove the tumors instead of the entire strand, which was much better for her. The bad news is that the tumors were cancer, but not the worst kind of cancer. He is sure he did get all of the tumors out, but now she needs to be watched closely for any new ones to appear. She has to go back in to have a hernia repaired near her leg that was amputated, and at that time he is going to check the lymph nodes to see if the cancer has spread to them. There were also some new lumps that appeared under her one leg since the surgery and they had lymph node tissue in them, so the doctor has sent a sample of the tissue from one of the lumps to the lab to be checked for cancer cells. We should get the results back from that tomorrow or the day after. Once we know more on whether the cancer has spread or not, we will decide what the next steps need to be. You would never even know Lexi was sick at all. She is such a sweet little girl that loves attention and has to be with you at all times. She loves belly rubs and playing with toys. She has continued to do well with her house training as well, just a few accidents here and there. Please keep Lexi in your thoughts and prayers while we work to figure out whether the cancer has spread anywhere else in her little body.

6/12/09 - Hi, my name is Lexi! I was out wandering the streets one day and ended up at the shelter. The shelter decided to contact the local rescue groups when my family didn't come to get me and no one else had adopted me yet, which is how I ended up here. I do have a series of medical issues, the first being I only have three legs and the one back leg I do have left isn't in the greatest shape. I keep it straight all the time and the vet couldn't even get my knee cap back into place! Even though I keep it straight and do drag it sometimes, I get around really well. That doesn't hold me back at all! I also have several mammary tumors. I am going back to the vet next week to have them all removed, which is a lot, and I was told it is going to be a very painful recovery. I also have a heart murmur and therefore my heart is a little enlarged, I have a skin infection that I am on antibiotics for, and I need my teeth cleaned. Even with all my many medical issues, I love everyone! I like to give everyone kisses and will roll on the floor and nibble on your fingers if you let me. I am a very good girl at bed time and whine a little bit and then I go and lay down and am quiet for the rest of the night. I am doing my best to make sure and go potty outside and have done very well so far! If you want to become my new forever home, please fill out an application!
