My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 07-31-09: AVERY is an 8 y/o (skinny) 4.1# little yorkie boy who had a very unhappy life before he came into UYR........he lived his life in a crate being used as a stud dog, making beautiful puppies. But no more! Avery has had a tough time overcoming his horrible neglect and ordeal, but he definitely has a strong spirit and is such a courageous little man. He is currently being treated for a UTI, and hopefully once that is resolved, he will be ready to go to his forever home. Although its obvious Avery has never been accustomed to being held and cuddled, Foster Mom & Dad are picking him up multiple times during the day so that he will become more comfortable with being loved and adored. He still needs to gain another pound to be a healthier weight. Avery is both hearing and vision-challenged, but he certainly sees good enough to follow FM into the kitchen anytime she's heading that way! He knows his name and will come when called although it may take him a minute or two to figure out which direction he is being called from. He loves walking around in the back yard and especially loves lying in the sun. This little man deserves all the happiness a loving and understanding forever home can give him. PLEASE NOTE: Because of his size and special challenges, Avery can not be adopted into a home with children.

UPDATED BIO 06/17/09: AVERY is an 8 y/o, 4.6# little yorkie boy who was dumped out in the wilderness to fend for himself. Because he was so desperately neglected when he came into UYR, he is still being fed Hills Science Diet A/D at lealst 4-5x a day so that he can not only gain weight, but gain strength and stamina as well. Avery is both hearing and vision-challenged, but he certainly sees enough to get around just fine. He knows his name and comes when called. He loves walking around in the back yard and especially loves lying in the sun. He is still recuperating from his terrible ordeal, and learning how to be a beloved companion; he is also learning that it's pretty nice to be cuddled, although it's obvious that he hadn't been used to that in his previous life. PLEASE NOTE: Because of his size, Avery can not be adopted into a home with children.

UPDATED BIO 06/04/09: AVERY is an 8 y/o, 4.6# little yorkie boy who was dumped out in the wilderness to fend for himself. When he had his dental, he lost his remaining 5 teeth as they were badly rotted; his lower jawbone had begun to deteriorate and this must have caused him great pain - poor little guy.......changes are that Avery was used as a back-yard breeder, and when he was no longer needed, the breeder probably just tossed him out like yesterday's garbage........so sad. He is eating 4-5x a day and is gaining strength each and every day. It appears that Avery is both hearing and vision-challenged, but he certainly sees enough to get around just fine. He knows his name and comes when called. He loves wandering around in the back yard and lying in the sun. He is still recuperating from his terrible ordeal, and learning how to be a beloved companion; he is also learning that it's pretty nice to be cuddled, although it's obvious that he hadn't been used to that in his previous life. UPDATED BIO 05/18/09: AVERY is an 8 y/o, 4.6# little yorkie boy who was dumped out in the wilderness to fend for himself. He went to the vet today -his heart is healthy, but he will have to have the remaining 5 teeth in his mouth pulled since they are badly decayed, which is why the lymph nodes in his throat are so swollen. The top of his wee little head will soon heal from the birds who pecked at him while he was struggling to find shelter. He is eating a tiny big of watered-down canned food and Foster Mom is syringing water into his mouth. What a courageous little survivor he is!

INITIAL BIO 05/17/09: MEET AVERY! He is a tiny little yorkie boy who was apparently dumped out in the wilderness by someone who didn't care if he starved to death or was eaten alive by a predator. It's nothing short of a miracle that he made his way to someone's house and crawled under their car where he felt secure. He was horribly matted and full of fleas; he is underweight and his nails were very long - it was apparent that he has been neglected for a very long time. It appeared that a bird had been pecking at the top of his wee little head; had he not summoned the strength to make his way to safety, he would likely have been killed and eaten by the bird. Avery was terribly dehydrated and too weak to eat. It's hard to imagine the terror and pain that Avery endured during this experience. He will be seeing the vet tomorrow so please stay tuned for more information on little Avery - we are prayerful that we got him in time to save his life...............
