Moose is a 5 year old cattle dog/ husky mix. This poor boy has been looking for his forever home since September 2017. Moose is the volunteer favorite because of his energetic and goofball personality. Although we love this resident frat boy, he deserves a loving home with people who understand him. He would be an excellent hiking buddy and loves water. You should see him in his pool! Moose adores his people and aims to entertain them with his comedy skits.
Moose is a herding dog who has a tendency to nip and grab when he is unsure of a situation. This is his genetic way to respond and he needs a breed experienced person to boost his confidence and make him feel secure. Moose needs an adult only home with no children and preferably no teenagers. Moose does not understand that friends come and go-he needs a low traffic home. His new family must understand his herding drive and behavior. Moose cannot live with cats or other small animals. He could potentially live with another dog.
Moose has been let down so much by people and he has certainly waited long enough. We know there is a perfect home for him. We will be critical of any applicant as we will not let Moose be failed again. Moose is already so loved, but what he needs now is someone to provide him structure and routine. Be prepared to put in time with our adoption process as we have a strict set of required visits and a stepwise acclimation to the home.

We do not work on a first come, first served basis for our animals. We look for the best match between the animal and the family/person looking to adopt. We also will foster adoptable animals in homes in certain cases to make sure that animal is a good fit in that home prior to completing an adoption.

More about this shelter
The Central PA Humane Society (CPHS) was established in 1964. We are a non profit 501c3 who receives no government or national rescue organization funding. We survive solely on grants we apply for, our fundraisers we put on and donations from our community. We are a 'life saving' shelter and only ever euthanize animals that are deemed dangerous to our staff and volunteers. This is after we have tried training, foster homes etc to give that animal every chance at a life outside of the shelter. We do euthanize animal that have life threatening injuries or illness that cannot be medically treated by a veterinarian.
CPHS has a dedicated team of staff and volunteers that cater to every animal in their care. We have enrichment programs for both dogs and cats to enable their time with us to be enjoyable and less stressful. We are very proud of our canine cardio and foster for the day programs than allow dogs to leave our facility and get some time out being walked or simply chilling out in someones home.
Our fundraisers are hugely popular in the community with events such as; Chili Fest, Bikers for Barkers, Paws in the Park, Fur Ball, Chocoholics Night out, Mimosas on the Lake to name a few! These fundraisers are instrumental in helping us look after the nearly 1,800 animals that come through our doors.
