My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you would like to visit one our amazing pups, please review the policies below, complete an online application www.adoptmountainpets.org and give us call if you have any questions prior to coming by. 970 626 2273

Cracker Jack is a sweet and fun loving 8 year old Pitbull, Heeler Mix. He is hearing impaired but is quickly learning hand signals! Cracker is looking for someone who will be excited to continue his training and help him navigate the world.

Cracker was surrendered by a local RIdgway family because they were moving across county and could not take him. We have a lot of good information from them to share with potential adopters.

Cracker has been good with the dogs he has met at the shelter and likes to play.

Although he grew up with children in the house, his owners told us he does herd and nip and as with many deaf dogs he can be jumpy and startled so young children are not a good fit for him.

Cracker loves to explore outside and go for walks, swim in the creek, and get cuddles and scratches behind the ears!

Because of his impairments he cannot be in a home with children under of the age of 16.

Cracker Jack weighs about 56 lbs.

We often adopt same day as the first visit an interview but it is not guaranteed. Some dogs will take multiple visits and adopters are approved based on the best fit for the particular animal being considered. We do not hold pets during the process.

Most dogs who come from the shelter will not be house trained.

Most adoptable dogs will need some reintroduction into a home, potty training, basic manners and social skills. Please be prepared to provide that training and dedication that will be needed.

We do not have any way of knowing if a dog or cat will do well with all children or all other animals.

It is important everyone in the home is introduced to the new pet.

We also require that any family dogs come into meet your potential adoptee. Please be sure your dogs are spayed or neutered and current on vaccines (distemper - parvo and rabies) before bringing them to the shelter.

All dogs must be transported home in a travel crate to transport your new pup home safely.

Renters must provide a copy of a lease indicating pets are allowed or contact information for the landlord.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting one of our pets or have questions about the process please see our website at www.adoptmountainpets.org or call the Shelter between 11:00 am and 5:45 pm Tuesday through Saturday. 970 626 2273
