My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

German Shepherd / Husky Mix
Age: approx. 3 years
Female, spayed
55 lbs

Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations)

Fiona was found, scared and unsure., on the streets of Oakland by a good Samaritan. Shelter staff noticed that she had symptoms of an upper respiratory infection and she we put in isolation and prescribed antibiotics. She refused to eat and take the medications. Her condition worsened and she lost 10 lbs during her shelter stay. So the shelter called Nobody’s Perfekt Dogs for assistance. We pulled her from the shelter, taking her directly to our vet where she was diagnosed with pneumonia. We struggled for over 2 weeks trying to nurse her back to health. She fought us the whole way - still not eating, not willingly taking the medications. We had to force the pills down her throat, as she was crying and screaming. We tried hospitalizing her, but she would rip out the IV, chew up the e-collar and destroy the fluids bag. Her pneumonia only worsened. At one point we considered humanely euthanizing her, if she didn’t want to get better. A vet specialist convinced us to ride it out for a few more days and see. Thankfully, she finally began to turn a corner - she started eating, her lungs began to clear up and she was gaining weight.

Fiona is fairly healthy now. We would like to see her hit 60 lbs (her weight when she entered the shelter), and she is getting there. She is a very calm soul, who is somewhat cautious with new people and places, but she does engage and seeks affection. She is good with other dogs her size at the dog park, but on a leash, she shows reactivity with other dogs. Because of her breed mix, she should be closely supervised with smaller animals (dogs or cats). She should not go to a home with small dogs or cats. Potential adopters should have a secure outside area if she is to be left alone for any period of time. Shepherds and Huskies are great escape artists. Because of her gentle, mild manner and desire to be with her owners at all times, she would make a great emotional support or companion animal.
