Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sweet Abigail was near death when someone found her dumped in a park. She was skin and bones and had almost no life in her little eyes. Fortunately, Abigail was stabilized and examined by a veterinarian. Since then, we've run some tests and it has been determined that she was likely suffering from Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). She has been on some medication for 2 weeks now and after a recheck on her blood work, she is improving! The improvement she's made in just a short amount of time is remarkable. Our veterinarian seems to believe that with proper care/maintenance, Abigail could live a comfortable and happy life. IMHA is not all that uncommon and dogs that recover as quickly as did Abigail, usually do very well over the long haul. Most don't need chronic meds and it is generally recommended to avoid treatments that might trigger another aberrant immune response, so minimal vaccines (usually just rabies and even that we sometimes avoid once adequately vaccinated) and certain drugs, especially some types of antibiotics.
Little Abi now bounces around our play yard, playing with toys and giving kisses to everyone she meets. She is great with other dogs and seems to have never met a stranger. She's a bigger girl, likely a Collie/Hound mix. She currently weighs about 56 lbs (came in at 46 lbs), but probably should weigh somewhere in the 70 lb range. Abigail is an absolute doll baby. Abi fought for her life and survived. Now we want the absolute best for her so she will never again have to suffer or want for anything.
