My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HI, people call me Jin because I’m a Jindo X. Sometimes they call me “Monkey” too because my head darts around as I listen to sounds coming from different directions! Jindo dogs originally came from Korea (we were classed as a National Treasure) and later moved to the USA. We are known for being Intelligent, faithful and brave. I’m smart and I’m loyal, but I’m not very courageous. I guess 2 out of three isn’t too bad! Truth is, I am very fearful of the outdoors and I’m nervous of strangers. I think you’ll understand why, when I tell you about my former life.
I was used as a guard dog at a factory. The people treated me very badly and they left me to die when the factory shut down. It was terrifying for me. Luckily, I was rescued before it was too late. As you can imagine, I was left with some issues from all the trauma. But, I was lucky again when some very kind people offered to help me. And for six months I’ve been living with them, healing and learning to trust. They are very proud of me and say I have made a lot of progress. They think it’s time for me to find my forever home.
I am gentle and loving when I am relaxed but some things still make me very nervous. I will need a patient, loving, dog-savvy guardian to share my life. My biggest fear is being outside. I am afraid to go for walks and I don’t even like going outside for bathroom breaks. But my people have helped me with it and I am completely housetrained now, When they tell me it’s time, I dash outside to do what I have to do, and then I run back as quickly as possible! I feel safe inside and prefer the comfort of my home. It’s where I am happy and content. If I have to go outside I prefer my people to be with me. I’d probably make a good apartment dog - especially in a ground floor apartment - I could run outside and right back in! If I had a fenced backyard, maybe in time I would get used to going out there with my people. Because of my fear of the outdoors, I don’t need a lot of exercise. A treadmill might work well for me.
I’m a loving and low maintenance dog for humans who understand my fears and my limitations. I like other dogs and don’t react to cats. I don’t need much grooming - maybe some brushing - but I keep myself pretty clean. And I don’t want very much exercise. I do get excited sometimes and I jump up and down - especially at breakfast and dinner times! And I bark at loud noises too until I feel relaxed.
I’m nervous of strangers (I don’t bite, but I am on edge), so I will have to meet my new people several times and visit their home several times too until I feel comfortable. The people I live with now will help me and my new people get to know each other.
If you are a patient, gentle dog - loving person who is looking for a faithful, affectionate companion, (who won’t drive you crazy asking to go for a walk) we might be perfect for each other. I just want to be loved and understood and to spend my time inside a safe, cozy home with my family.
