My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rupert
Rupert - mixed terrier/chihuahua - 7 pounds - puppy/10-11 months of age - male neutered - beige and white short coat with some breeching and tufting

Many people have made the claim that Rupert is too cute to be legal, which is a good place to start. He is also loaded with personality and energy - and all of it is directed by his love of everyone and everything. He adores people, other dogs, and even cats.

Tiny though he is, Rupert is irrepressibly confident, and such an innocent. He fears nothing, and his great faith in himself and the world around him are incredibly touching. He is not remotely a candidate for a pocket pet - he is a fellow who loves to run, to play, and to explore. Rupert glories in every moment of every day.

Rupert is being fostered in a home with multiple dogs, and he has befriended all of them - some of them quite large - as well as the resident cats. His socialization opportunities have been vast, and he has met a variety of people of all ages and sizes. Rupert has also benefited from all rewards-based positive training. He expects only good, and he has trust in the world around him and all its inhabitants.

Rupert will benefit hugely from a continuation of the positive training he is receiving, and continued socialization. His adopters will need to be vigilant, and aware of the gift of such an open, brave and accepting puppy. It will be important to guide his intrepid terrier spirit carefully, and protect his vulnerability when he might over reach in terms of greeting a new dog who is not as friendly or kind as the ones Rupert knows in his foster home.

Rupert was found as a stray and taken to a small Animal Control facility. He had suffered significant hair loss due to a condition called demodex, which some puppies develop for a time as they grow. Simple treatment, good care, and love have accomplished wonders, and Rupert now sports a coat that is growing in beautifully thick. He has completed his treatment.

Rupert revels in food, belly rubs, and his miniature agility course. He has a real capacity to focus and to learn quickly, and he embraces new experiences and challenges. He is making huge strides each day in his house training and his leash training, and will need continuing encouragement and support.

Rupert runs like the wind - chasing butterflies and his foster canine siblings. His legs are very long and very refined; his eye contact is direct and open; he is extremely responsive.

Rupert goes all out - whether he is playing, eating or sleeping. He will bond deeply with his committed adopter(s), and he will also be a great friend to another gentle and kind dog.

We are requiring a fully fenced yard for Rupert, and no children under the age of 8.
