Approximate DOB 11/03/2015

Size - About 50 lbs

History- A litter of puppies were turned into a rural shelter. Mom was an American Staffordshire Terrier and dad was unknown. The puppies were scheduled to go to an out of state rescue however that rescue backed out at the last minute. The puppies risked being sent back to the shelter for euthanasia so we agreed to bring them here.

Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and scared of strangers.  Will snap if cornered or pushed hence the reason he is marked as 'special needs'. Czr would not do good in a busy home with a lot of visitors due to his fear. Once he bonds with his people though he is a big ol' lap dog-- he loves laps, cuddling on the couch, and hugs. Once he has bonded he is very sweet, playful, and happy. He does look intimidating because he is so serious but he is a shy guy who just wants love.

Energy Level- Mid to lower level energy- loves to play chase and wrestle with the other dogs (he is with Jacques, Taffy, and Piquin). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but he would really love to have his own person to love and cuddle with on the couch.

Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs and cats

Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door.

This guy is so handsome, loving, and gentle with his family. However, gaining his trust will take some time and treats. He is one of those dogs that will require several visits here and at an adopters home before transitioning to a new home and then should be kept on leash for at least a week or two. Once he bonds he is the most amazingly beautiful, happy, goofy boy ever. He is stocky but not large. He would love a family to love and call his very own who he can sprawl out on the couch with. He will make someone an amazing pet as he bonds strongly and becomes an amazing protector.

He does require a fenced yard and a very patient adopter who has the time and energy to earn his trust as we have. Adopter will need to be able and willing to come out to Peralta a minimum of 3-4 times and visits to the adopters home a minimum of 3-4 as well so he can get adjusted and learn to trust you before we just leave him with an unfamiliar person. No kids for him due to the time it takes to earn his trust. This is considered a project dog for someone with experience, patience, and time. He is not a dangerous dog and has never bit anyone but has snapped when he got scared when he first came to us 4 years ago - a lot has changed with him since and we think he will be perfect going to a new home we just don't want to rush him or a new family.

Adoption fee is a donation to the rescue - he is neutered, has been given all age appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, 3 yr rabies vacc, HW tested, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need.

Send us an e-mail to adopt@almosthomenm.org  requesting an application to adopt this sweetie!! Animals are seen by appointment only. An application must be submitted to us prior to making an appointment.

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting from us but have questions please feel free to e-mail us at adopt@almosthomenm.org In order to start the application process you must send us an e-mail request for an application. We will e-mail it to you as soon as possible. Then just fill it out and send it back via e-mail. Once we receive it then we can schedule an appointment for you to come out and meet the animals. We are not an open to the public facility with specific hours of operation. We are a foster home and therefore require an application submitted before an appointment can be made and directions given out. If you would like to adopt from out of state then you must be willing to come out to meet and adopt the pet you are interested in.. We do not ship pets nor will we meet someone somewhere.. We want adopters to come out and spend at least an hour with this pet in their environment before adopting just to ensure there is a connection. We would hate for the adoption to not work and be so far away. The Animal Rescue Site

More about this rescue

We are a newly formed rescue in Peralta, NM. We are still very small and currently in process of getting our 501c3 tax exempt status. It is mainly just myself, my two daughters and a small group of volunteers. We only take in animals from shelters who are scheduled to be put down. All animals are housed in my home and on my property. We started this rescue due to the simple fact that there are so many wonderful dogs dying everyday at the shelters because there just isn't enough room.We do not discriminate against any breed. Every dog has the potential to be a great family pet, working dog, or therapy dog- just as every dog has the potential to become a "dangerous dog" due to the simple fact that they all (or most anyway) have teeth and can bite when provoked or trained to obey their owners commands. We do it for the love of the animals and the need to find forever homes for the ones impounded due to no fault of their own.
