My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there y'all. My name is Zoey. I'm a Texas gal and even though I love my Texas and Bluebonnets, I'm ready to travel anywhere my new family lives. I love you already, and you've only just met me through my great pictures.

I've loved adult people for as long as I can remember, and I especially love playing with kids of all sizes. I'm a trim and fit 35-40 lb., well behaved 3 year old young lady with a great coat and disposition. My mom and dad may have been a Border Collie and Heeler so you might just call me a Border Heeler, OK? I suppose that because I'm part Heeler I like rules and things to be orderly. I've never disliked other dogs, but may nip to bring others back to rules and order, which is my Heeler character.

I'm a rare sort of gal who is very thoughtful and cares so much about how others feel, that I don't show any aggression over my food or to other dogs. The heels of my new parents and kid friends are safe from any nipping too. I have other dog friends here at the rescue, and I wouldn't mind more.

I'm not crate trained yet, but I'm working on it. I like to dine in my safe place so that after I finish, I will soon join you in happy play once again. Oh, and you know what? I love to walk with you on a leash. Guess what? I sit when you stop. I remember some of my training pretty well. How about that?

Sometime ago, some friendly Hallettsville, TX police officers took me in off the street to a safe place, but nobody wanted to claim me. :( I was scheduled for euthanesia, but the folks at Lucie's Project rescued me and provided me with gentle care and lots of love and attention. Now, I'm ready to be adopted and would love to become your family's special canine pal. Hey, even though I'm a little shy and skittish because I had to fend for myself on the street and be around unkind people, with a little patience, love and training I could easily become one of the most important "people" in your life. Even your little snuggle buddy if you want. Won't you please take me home?
