My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gavin is a 5 year old male Anatolian Shepherd mix recently rescued from the Athens County Dog Shelter and placed into our foster program. Affable, loveable and highly intelligent this beautiful dog is facing some serious health problems. Gavin was recently diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia, and it has progressed to the point where he will require a femoral ball excision at the very least. Without this, Gavin's life will be one of extreme pain and suffering.

Currently, Gavin is receiving medications to help control the pain and he has been to the veterinarian to complete his medical work-up and for his routine vaccinations. Male members of his breed generally are 100 pounds or over, and are very large working dogs. Gavin is 53 pounds, quite slight and very careful in his movements. He tires easily, does not feel like eating well, and has some difficulty in sitting or laying comfortably. But when hugged or petted, his eyes light up and he is all grins and wags.

The goal of FOSD is to assist Gavin by getting him to a rescue or sanctuary who could offer him lifetime refuge and to raise the funds necessary to assist in his medical expenses. His medical expenses are expected to be considerable. Much more then we can handle at the present time.

Gavin was found as a stray living on his own with no one taking care of him or helping him with his basic needs. No one showed up to claim him from the shelter. And, he did not get any adoption interest because of his disability. It is time for his lucky break. Please help FOSD help this most deserving, sweet soul.

If you would like to meet Gavin, please write us at friendsofshelterdogs@yahoo.com. He is very gentle with adults and children. Gavin needs all the friends he can get.
