My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

**Please read the full bio for Cooper ** Meet Cooper. Isn't he handsome? The pictures are great but honestly don't do him justice of just how handsome he is. He is ~63 pounds of smushy gray fur with white markings. He has the cutest little underbite. Cooper is looking for his forever home - one who is dedicated to just Cooper as he needs to be the only pet in the home. He is a smart boy - he knows sit, leave it, lay down, recall, & stay! He is a strong boy & needs an experienced handler that will continue to work on his manners & leash skills. In his original home, Cooper lived with 10 & 12 year-old boys from the time he was 8 weeks old until he was 11 months old & he loved them very much. He is equal parts active AND chill - he likes to lie down on his bed with a bone or yummy peanut butter & treat-filled KONG as much as he enjoys doing the zoomies in the yard. Playing fetch is his favorite pastime - tennis balls are a must in the new home. When he is done, he’s ready to lounge & is happy to hang out with you or by himself. A DNA test was done which says he is a mixture of Labrador Retriever, American Staffordshire Terrier, hound, & Chinese Shar Pei.
Cooper was adopted when he was a young puppy & was very loved. He was adopted into a home with a 2 year-old dog who was also a Pawfect Match dog. She loved him as a puppy, but started to indicate that she no longer wanted another dog in her home. They both had high energy play styles & a few play sessions escalated & were difficult to break up, with neither dog relenting. Cooper didn't take kindly to being told no by her & continued to assert himself. She then didn't take kindly to being ignored. It caused a stressful situation for both dogs. Because of this, it was decided Cooper needed to be the only pet in a furever home so was returned to the rescue.

***Cooper is the 'pawfect' match for a household with no other pets - an adopter looking for a wonderful, smart, handsome dog with so much to offer is who will be his pawfect match. Cooper needs a home with a true FENCED yard so that he can burn off energy & play fetch without the ability to get into trouble. Cooper is not going to be a candidate for a dog park or doggie daycare. Cooper received a good deal of training prior to returning but he will need an adopter who will commit to ongoing training & whatever he needs. Could YOU be that 'pawfect' match? Could you be the furever home for Cooper?

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

♥ The first step is to fill out our adoption application on our website at www.pawfectmatch.org under Adoption Information.

♥ Once we receive your application, the second step will be for our volunteers to check your vet reference and talk with your personal references.

♥ The third step, if your application is approved, is for our volunteers to contact you about scheduling a home check. This is not to see what kind of house you live in or how clean or dirty it is. It is simply to see if the yard size, fencing, etc is compatible with your dog of interest. It also allows other animals in your household as well as children to meet your potential new dog to see if everyone will get along and to make sure this is truly a "pawfect" match!

♥ After all three of these steps are completed, the final step is to sign the adoption contract and make the adoption donation fee of $300.00. This may seem high, but it is actually a bargain! Your new pet will be up to date on the necessary vaccinations required by the age of the dog at time of adoption, spayed or neutered, on heartworm preventative and flea and tick meds, micro-chipped, groomed, and well on his or her way with basic obedience and house training. All of our dogs will be adopted out with a collar and leash, and a PMR tag.

♥ NOTE - If you have "spam protection" turned on for your email account, please set a white filter to allow emails from pawfectmatch@gmail.com to pass. We will NOT respond to spam protection response emails.

More about this rescue

We are an all volunteer rescue organization devoted to saving dogs from shelters, puppy mills, abusive situations and abondonment in North Carolina. Our members foster, transport and help the rescue efforts with their individual skills, experience, knowledge and expertise, and most importantly, their love of dogs.

At Pawfect Match Rescue we believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance regardless of their breed or age.

We take a different approach to rescue. We don’t try to save the masses; we just save ONE at a time and make them the best dog they can be by the time they find their forever homes.

By that we mean that we take them into our homes where they live amongst us and our pets and are treated as one of the family, not as a foster dog. We accomplish this by limiting our fosters to one or two per household.

Besides the basics of crate training and house training, we teach them basic obedience, we groom them, feed them a high quality dog food, and last but not least, we shower them with LOVE and attention that hopefully teaches them to trust again and realize that life really IS good..

We’ll never be able to save them all, no matter how many we try to pull and foster. So we believe that the one at a time approach with the extra TLC allows us to really KNOW the dogs and be able to match them more precisely with their new families.

This ends up being a win- win situation for all involved.

Pawfect Match is all volunteer and relys soley on adoption donation fees and public support. Most times our adoption donations do not cover our medical expenses.
