My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BLAKE is a 5-year-old neutered male yellow lab. Blake weighs 62 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

DESCRIPTION Blake is a sweet, happy boy. He looks like he has lived a rough life so far. Blake is good with other dogs. He lived with two other dogs in his previous home and he was tested on lead with other dogs at the shelter and was fine. From transporter: Blake is a strong and very friendly boy. He seems to like to talk. Blake was great in the car. He pulls on the leash, so an easy walk harness will be good for him as he learns leash manners. Blake was an owner surrender to the shelter because the owners were moving and couldn't take their dogs with them.

UPDATE: Blake is very curious. He's quite interested in all the daily activity of the suburbs. He loves to look out the window at home and in the car. He has been fascinated by joggers and was completely mesmerized by a sprinkler. Blake has been very interested in everything the family is doing. He likes to lay in the kitchen while we are cooking and eating dinner, but never begs or gets into the garbage. Blake does not bark and does not jump on strangers. He has not had the opportunity to learn basic commands but has demonstrated he can learn quickly and responds when you correct him. He went from crazy dog on a leash to a calmer and responsive walker on the harness. He will need more experience to not be distracted and excited by the world around him. He sleeps all night in his bed and his housebroken. He is healing from being neutered but has shown a lot of interest in playing catch. Blake will make a great addition to a family and will quickly bond.

UPDATE: Blake is a very sweet boy! He gets super excited when someone comes home - his tail wags a mile-a-minute and he spins in circles for his favorite people. He has a strong small animal prey instinct for squirrels and rabbits, and cats get him wound up. We are working with him on the "leave it" command, but a home without cats may be best. Blake is making progress walking with a harness and likes to go on walks. His rope toy is his favorite thing - he loves to play! An active family would be a great fit for this fun boy.

UPDATE: Blake is a sweet, sweet boy and is doing great in his foster townhome. He is housebroken and has free reign over the house when his foster needs to be gone. He has not been crated; he did scratch at the door when left alone initially, but calmed after a couple of days. His foster works-from-home, so he does get a potty break every four hours. Blake is great with the foster's teenager. He knows sit, and he quickly learned paw! He is a great eater, is not protective of his food, and sleeps through the night. Blake is a love bug and loves snuggling in your bed or the sofa - he would a family that will let him on the furniture:) He gets super excited when someone comes home - his tail wags a mile-a-minute and he spins in circles for his favorite people. He has a strong small animal prey instinct for squirrels and rabbits, and cats get him wound up. We are working with him on the "leave it" command, but a home without cats may be best. Blake is a playful guy and walks ~4 miles each day to expend his energy. He is very strong, and his handler needs to be prepared for him to pull hard if he senses something he wants to investigate. He is learning to walk on a leash and doing MUCH better, but ongoing training is needed. He wants to meet people and dogs on his walks and does well; he has not spent time alone with other pups while with his fosters. Blake is a cuddly, fun-loving boy and is the perfect match for a family willing to give him the exercise and ongoing training he needs.

UPDATE: Blake has been in his foster home for two weeks. He is doing really well on walks now and sits at the corners until you tell him to go. He now knows sit, stay, high five, shake, knucks, and knows how to pick the hand that has the treat. He still gets very excited when someone comes to the house and learning not to jump but doing OK. Blake's foster human brother (Jack-13) was sick this past weekend and honestly Blake never left his side. He knows when you are sad, not feeling well, etc. and will just come and snuggle with you. He loves to go on LONG walks and can't get enough of car rides and sitting in the front window just looking at all there is to see. He could ride for hours.
