My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rocco is a tiny 9-1/2 year old 6 pound cutie. He is being fostered in Jacksonville, FL.

UPDATED BIO 08/16/2019: Rocco here – coming to you from my new foster home in Jacksonville, FL. I have some new things here to learn about. Let’s see – first, there is this giant dog that lives here! I'm told he is a Golden Retriever, but it’s scary to think he can eat me in one big gulp! Just kidding. Then there is the cat. We do not see eye to eye and there have been a few tense moments exchanged. I sure do hope we can work things out together.

Me and my new Foster Mom need time to learn about each other. I have some issues regarding men due to my prior negative experiences. Foster Mom is working with me to help me learn better ways to react to stressful situations. She says it will take time and reminds me that I need to be patient. Luckily, she does things slowly and gradually introduces things that may be stressful to me - I’m not a fan of most men due to my prior negative experiences and she is working with me on that. That way I get to learn that those stressful things are not as bad as I originally thought.

I’m learning some new things that are fun – I can use the doggie steps to get up on her bed. Foster Mom put my blanket on the bed to nap, and I asked her to put my toys there, too, so that I can keep an eye on them. I am as cute as a bug. I am fully vetted and even had a dental so my teeth are nice and shiny clean. I am on Heartworm Preventative and Flea/Tick Preventative, and I also take a glucosamine supplement to keep my joints working right. Don’t worry I can still run and jump easily. I am housetrained, but I wear a bellyband in the house because sometimes I lift my leg to mark. I will let you know when I need to go outside to do my business.

NOTE FROM ROCCO’S FOSTER MOM: Rocco has only been here a few days with me and my critters. Plans are to help him with his behavior issues so he will be prepared for his furever home. He had negative experiences with men in the past and has experienced harsh handling. He is better when people approach him calmly and interact softly. Most of the time he prefers interactions to be on his terms. One of his favorite things are belly rubs – lots of them! He also enjoys his squeaky toys and will carry them around. At this time, he needs a stay-at-home female adopter with little to no male influence and NO children. Rocco likes walks, but would enjoy a fenced yard – this is not a deal breaker, though. Please give both of us time to adjust and learn about each other.
