Aberdeen Scottish Terrier Rescue is a registered 501(c)3.
Adoption application at www.aberdeenstr.com

***MUST SUBMIT APPLICATION before we will respond to email or phone inquiries. Thanks for your cooperation!***

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER, WE ARE AN ALL-VOLUNTEER RESCUE WITH FULL-TIME JOBS.
Please do not contact us to come look at a dog.
We will contact you once we have reviewed your completed application if we think your home might be a good fit. A reference check, phone interview, and home visit will be completed before meeting an adoptable dog.

We work quickly. Please do not submit an application until you are ready to bring a new furry family member home. Expect your references to be contacted shortly after submitting your application. We adopt out to homes around the US and Canada, but require that you are present for the meet and greet in Renton, WA.

Our adoption fee is non-negotiable as we need these funds to cover medical bills. The adoption fee is due on the day of adoption in the form of a check, Chase QuickPay, PayPal, or cash.

Nana
Nana is perhaps a Norwegian Buhund mix. We have no way of knowing for sure what breeds she is mixed with. She is 25 lbs and has not grown any in the past 2 months. She has gained weight well since coming to the USA, she loves meal times, treats, raw asparagus and ice cubes. Her wonderful foster family is working hard on helping her trust through lots of toys and treats. Peanut Butter and Cheese is her big motivators for her. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her shots, heart worm negative, has been dewormed and is looking for her forever family.

Nana gets along great with other dogs of all sizes. She is very playful and will instigate play with the other dogs but is respectful if they tell her no. She makes dog friends very quickly. As a young puppy she was fostered with cats and did fine but has not been around one in several months. We believe it's best for Nana to go to a home without small children since she takes some time to warm up and can get overwhelmed in hectic situations. When Nana gets excited she does jump up for attention.

While being fostered it was discovered that Nana became very itchy, licking, scratching and chewing to the point of causing sores. Several vet visits and different treatment plans later she got a shot for itching that worked well and was referred to a Skin & Allergy Specialist. There she underwent allergy testing and was found to be allergic to several grasses, trees and mold. A special allergy serum was made for her and now she gets shots given by her foster parents every 1-3 weeks, along with a weekly medicated bath. She just had a follow up on 8/22 and the specialist said she looks like a different dog, her sores are healed and fur has grown in beautifully. For her shots she gets cheese or peanut butter and ear scratches from foster dad while foster mom does the poke. She does not seem to notice anything but the treat and ear scratches. Nana's new family must commit to continue having her seen by an Allergy & Skin Specialist and continuing her prescribed treatment. This could be a lifetime treatment but the love she gives once she trusts you is oh so worth it.

Yet again, it's another extremely sad life story for Nana who was rescued just before she was about to lose her life in an overwhelming and overcrowded death camp of a shelter in Changwon, Korea. She was pulled by a Korean rescue just in time and as always we are beyond grateful to the Korean rescue for what they do, day in and day out, for these precious souls.

Nana was bought back to the USA and is now a US citizen. Straight away, we could see how thin Nana was and that she really needed to put on weight and loved to eat. She is now at a healthy weight.

We knew from Nana’s behavior that she had been to hell and back as she did not trust men, needs time to warm up and trust people yet she is oh so curious. Everyone needed to go slow with her and have compassion for what she had previously endured yet be willing to encourage Nana to let go of her past fears. Nana needs several days to warm up to new people and to trust them. Some men she wants absolutely nothing to do with and we believe a man was extremely cruel to her in her past in Korea. She has shown so much improvement with her foster dad, though, and he is a tall, gentle guy. She does bark at him on occasion but she has started seeking treats and attention from him. Nana definately feels more secure with females and balanced dogs in the house to help give her examples of good dog and human interaction.

Nana loves food, a good treat and is very toy motivated. She loves to test things with her mouth and drop it a few times before deciding something new is edible. She loves carrying toys around, playing fetch and sneaking her inside toys outside. She loves her toys especially balls and antlers so in her new family they must be willing to have toys for this lovely little lady to enjoy, as we don’t believe she experienced toys in her life before and they bring her so much joy. A variety of toys usually keeps her entertained enough to leave alone anything she isn't supposed to have.

Nana, being a young dog, does normal chewing and will need to be provided safe chews. She loves antlers, bully sticks, lamb ears, licky mats and marrow bones.

Nana needs a forever home with a fully fenced backyard as she has so much energy. Oh boy watching the zoomies is so entertaining. Another playful dog in the home that enjoys similar play and will help give Nana confidence is a must.

In her foster home, Nana loves a good cuddle and even likes to sleep on or against her foster mom. She does not enjoy being crated and loves spending time goofing around in the house, yard with the other dogs or snoozing on the couch and has not been destructive. She enjoys a quite place to retreat to if there are visitors but has been more curious with each social encounter in the home. With some people she likes to be held and cuddled and given lots of love and attention, and with others she likes to keep a distance and does not enjoy them picking her up or holding her.

Nana has traveled in the car countless times with her foster family, behaves really well but does get car sick on long trips. A dose of Cerenia before long car rides is the trick for that.

As with all rescue puppies, Nana will need work on training in her new home and building confidence and trust, so this must be something her forever family is willing to commit to. Nana has worked very hard at her potty training and inside accidents are rare

Our rescue dogs need homes with people who are understanding of their past and are not willing to give up on them. Our number one focus is finding these little loves a wonderful forever home with a family who is going to care for them and show them what it is like to be loved in a safe environment with a full belly and a warm bed. These sweet pups do not ask for much from you but they may require a little patience and understanding.

Nana has an adoption fee of $650 and is ready for her truly loving forever home.
