My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shepherd mix | 1 yr old | 45 lbs | Male

Temperament: Docile, affectionate, independent.
Activity level: Fairly low energy for a medium/large sized dog. Prefers cuddling and sleeping over long outdoor activities. Half hour walk in the morning and hour + walk in the evening.
Vetting: Vaccinated (core vaccines), 4dx bloodwork negative for three tick borne diseases (Ehrlichia/Anaplasma and Lyme) plus 2 Heartworm tests, fecal (negative), dewormed, flea/tick/heartworm prevention given, neutered, microchipped, 2 Leishmania tests completed (both negative) and a CBC (Complete Blood Count) - normal.
Housebroken: Yes but needs regular opportunities to go out.
Good with Dogs? Lived with a dog and got along really well. Proper introduction required to new dogs he meets. He can get nippy if another dog gets in his space, especially off-leash dogs while he is on leash. Meets some dogs well, sometimes shows little interest, sometimes growls and lunges.
Good with Cats? Not tested but probably best to steer clear based on his reaction to other dogs and squirrels.
Good with Children? Very good with children over 10 years old.
Prey drive: Chases squirrels.
Leash Etiquette & Reactivity: Walks well on familiar routes. Can be reactive to other dogs.
Response to Commands: Responds well to sit and come. Still working on stay and off.
Noisy? Fairly quiet. Sometimes growls at unusual noises from the street when the windows are open and at his own reflection. Barks only when startled out of deep sleep.
Crate trained? Working on it. When alone in the house, he loves spending time in his crate and will naturally go to it. Will only enter on his own terms at this point and will not sleep in the crate.
Resource Guarding: None noted.
Feeding: Fed in the morning, a cup of kibble and a half of wet dog food. Fed in the evening, a cup and a half of kibble.
Transit: Not tested on transit. Hard time getting into the car, but rides well and can go for at least an hour with no trouble. He has, however, not had a lot of experience getting in and out of cars so this is likely to improve over time.
Busy streets: Much prefers a quiet route to walk. Will freeze up in over stimulating environments. He is, however, still getting used to Toronto!
Response to outdoors: Needs coaxing to leave the house, but fine once out. Doesn’t like to be let out in the backyard at night without company. This will likely change once he is used to his new home and environment.
*comes with $500 of pet insurance for 6 weeks.
*bio may change as we get to know Maxie better.

Ready to meet the coolest new doggo in town? Introducing Maxie, just arrived from Iran and ready to chill with a new family. Maxie is incredibly calm for such a young dog! He loves a good cuddle more than anything and will climb up on the couch to kiss and snuggle. He’ll nose or paw your arm a couple of times if you’re not paying enough attention to him, and he’ll want to sleep right beside you!

While he’ll get all up in your space, he needs his own when it comes to other dogs. He shouldn’t meet off-leash dogs while he’s on-leash – but who can blame him? Dogs need proper introductions after all.

Maxie is a real homebody; he would be perfect for someone who works from home and has a fairly quiet and low-key lifestyle, with the time and desire to give him lots of attention. He can get a bit over-excited when guests visit so he does better if he doesn’t meet the guest at the door (ie. is distracted when they come in). New people means new opportunities for attention!
