My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Precious is a 2 yr old, 22 lbs female rat terrier who was taken to the vet as a supposed stray. The folks claimed they were interested in keeping her even though she was pregnant. However, when she was found to be heartworm positive, her family asked that she be euthanized because taking her another 10 miles to the no kill shelter was too much work and they had no intention of going through the prolonged treatment. The vet chose differently for Precious and her unborn babies and took them in where he put them in contact with the local MJs rescuer. Precious is up to date on all vaccines, spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and has successfully completed treatment for heartworms. She has been given a clean bill of health and is ready to find her own forever family.

Precious is very intelligent. She is extremely curious and can exploit holes in your fencing. However, she doesn't go far as she prefers to be where her person is. She enjoys chew toys and squeaky toys immensely. She is housetrained and is also trained to use a doggy door which she prefers. She lived with 3 cats for about 4 months and does well with them. She only chases them when they get the zoomies inside. Outside she loves to lay in the sun and role on her back. She is good with other dogs, but will try to let them know she's in charge and that you are "her" person. This doesn't last very long before she settles in. She walks great on a leash and loves to go for walks. The heartworm treatment is now complete and she no longer has any restrictions on her. She loves to run and play and roll around in the sunshine in the grass!

She loves to give hugs and snuggle, especially at bedtime. She also loves to burrow into the covers around your feet. She sometimes needs reassurance that you aren't going anywhere at meal time and can often seek you out at meal time. Once assured you are still there, she will go back to eating. She is a real sweetheart that her new people will fall in love with. She listens well, she is house trained, she follows her foster mom around. She loves to be held, always wants to be in foster mom's lap. She does get jealous if foster mom pays attention to another dog, and will use her paw to swat at foster mom when she wants all the attention to herself or if she stops petting her and she is not done. She just wants love and she is so sweet its very easy to love her.
