My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Holly is a 14 month. old Maltese female, age estimated by vets. Sadly this little 7 lb. dog has had a traumatic life. 2 ½ months ago she entered a big shelter as a stray. She wasn’t putting much weight on her right rear leg, so the shelter sent her for x-rays which showed multiple fractures of her pelvis and a badly fractured right upper rear leg. Our rescue picked up Holly from the shelter. We had 2 surgeons review her x-rays and requested an attempt be made to realign her fractured upper leg. Her leg could not be saved as the ends of the bones were shattered. The surgeon told us that her injury occurred 6 months prior and bone wasting with loss of cartilage and ligaments occurred because she was attempting to use the broken leg. If Holly had received medical care when her injury occurred, her leg could have been saved. Little Holly has now recovered and runs and plays normally.

For an adoptive family, Holly needs an experienced dog person as she is fearful of being hurt and shows aggressive behavior (growling and tries to bite) when new people approach her, especially men. Holly loves her foster mom and dad and is the perfect household companion as she is house trained and responds nicely to basic commands. She can be friendly when new people are patient with her and offer her treats before trying to touch her. People working in a pet store won her over with treats and calm voices. Holly would do best in a quiet home, without children and stairs. She is protective and barks loudly when she hears strange noises or sees people walking outside so shared walls (condos and apartments) are not recommended.
