My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This special little fellow is Batty! Batty is a Manx Mixed male, and he is roughly six months old. Batty came to us after a kind person found out about a little special needs kitten whose life was in danger. They took in Batty to keep him safe, and then began looking for a rescue for him. While we are extremely full here at Saving GRACE, blind kittens happen to be my kryptonite… I literally was just not strong enough to say no to this fella!

Before we got Batty we were told he was blind and “slow”, we didn’t know what the “slow” part was all about…. until we met him. Batty is one the weirdest, if not number one weirdest, kittos we have ever came across! First off we were told he was a super sweet cat, so when they handed over the carrier with this chubby little dude screaming and hissing his head off, we were a touch confused. Then we realized, that when moved to new locations, Batty gets quite defensive, which makes sense as he is blind as a bat (one part of the meaning behind his name). As a personal owner of blind cats, I am used to my guys just freezing up in terror when they are brought into a new place. Batty is terrified too and gets a bit upset about it; which is understandable, moving to a new place, with new smells, and not being able to see what is going on does sound pretty scary. Once he knows he’s safe and all good, he settles in quick and turns into a total love ball. His new family will need to be aware of this little quirk, and understand they will need to move slow with Batty, especially when introducing him to their house. Also, due to his tendency to “act out” when scared, we do not believe that a super active home or a home with small children will be a good fit for him.
Now that Batty’s one semi-negative “quirk” has been explained, lets discuss all of his amazing, weird ones! Batty has mannerisms like no cat we’ve met before. If you can’t tell by his pictures, he loves to be on his back all the time. He sleeps on his back (and sometimes he will sleep with his eyes wide open, no joke), and he also lovessss to be held and coddled like a baby. He has yet to try and wiggle out of anybody’s arms while they are cradling him and giving him lovins. It is just too darn cute! Another odd thing Batty does, is he seems to constantly be playing with things that are not there… he plays with his “imaginary” toys more that his real ones, and his reaction times are very slow and goofy. It’s impossible to not smile and laugh when you are around Batty and he is being a total loon. That is how he also got his name, Batty is most certainly bat s**t crazy… but in all the good ways if you ask us!!! Oh and have we mentioned he does all of the above with crossed eyes, a hilarious angry little look to his face, and an adorable bob tail?!?

Batty has gone to our vet and has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and had a full exam. Our vet confirmed that she believes he is definitely blind, and due to the fact his optic nerves aren’t damaged at all, his odd mannerisms are likely due to a neurological brain issue. She believes he over reacts to new places and such out of fear as well. Besides the whole blind and neurological stuff, Batty appears to be a healthy little guy!

Our Batty is a special boy needless to say, and he is looking for a special family to open up their homes and their hearts to him. Batty is a darling little goofball and the right family is going to have one heck of a great, hilarious new kitto! If you are interested in Batty please head to our website and fill out an adoption application.
