My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Have you met Speckles yet?? If you haven’t, you’re missing out!!
This sweet girl is a boxer mix, estimated to be around 2 years old and weighs in at 45lbs. Speckles was brought to a local animal control as a stray and the name Speckles seemed quite fitting. When you see this girl, it’s clear her life wasn’t always as happy as it is now. She’s got quite a bit of scarring on her face but she’s still absolutely gorgeous and her resilience makes us adore her more. She’s got beauty, inside and out. 💜

Speckles is amazing!! This girl is a lover of ALL people. Her downfall? She’s not a huge fan of other dogs or cats. That makes it harder to find her perfect home. Her foster family absolutely adores her though. Friends and family are always welcome to visit their home because Speckles loves new people! She can be a bit exuberant at first, so she may jump with excitement. But her foster mom says that’s something they’ve been working with her on, and she’s very receptive. She is a smart girl!

Any fears or anxiety that Speckles had when going into her foster home have almost completely dissipated but she does still have a prey drive. When squirrels taunt you, you must chase in retaliation! It only makes sense. Chase away, girl. That squirrel had it coming.

Speckles has been in her foster home since October and has settled in like a champ. She’s potty trained, crate trained and has great manners (but please refer to the comment above about excitement and jumping with new people). She sleeps on her own dog bed at night, in her foster parent’s room. When the alarm goes off in the morning, she goes to her foster mom’s side of the bed and asks for permission to come up. That’s her cuddle time! And her foster mom loves it.

She’s obsessed with her toys and will play with them for hours. But she’s not just chewing her toys, they are her prey. She watches them for minutes at a time, thinks about how she’ll slowly approach and when that toy isn’t expecting it...Speckles pounces! That toy never saw it coming. We mourn the life of those toys. 😂Speckles is currently being reviewed by Guinness because of her toy hunting skills. She’s currently undefeated. Her stats are: Speckles = 1,153 toy catches. Toys = Zero.

Speckles isn’t just a play monster though! She’s a well-rounded girl who also enjoys relaxing, cuddling and being super warm and cozy! Heating pads are her friends. She will lay on one for hours and fall asleep.

When her foster mom wants to be active, she’s tried running with Speckles. Speckles thought that was weird. Clearly that meant they should just bounce around a lot and get excited. At least Speckles has enthusiasm for running, the rest of us sure don’t. She walks on leash well and although she’s not a fan of dogs, when she sees one on walks, she is easily redirected. She’ll focus on the dog for a moment but when her foster mom says “let’s go” she gets her focus right back where it belongs. This girl wants nothing more than to please her people.

Speckles isn’t perfect but if you’re looking for just one dog who adores people, she’s your gal. She’s kid-friendly too! Are you human? Then Speckles loves you!

Speckles is vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She is ready to find her family. If you or anyone you know is interested in meeting Speckles, please fill out an application at animalheartline.org and a volunteer will contact you.
