Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Poppy
Poppy is an exuberant, joyful 2-year old, 8-pound Dachshund/Wire-Haired Terrier mix. She has the most beautiful face (the pix really don’t do her justice) and the sweetest disposition to go with it.
Poppy was found as a stray and has been grateful every minute since Foster Dogmom brought her home from the shelter. Poppy likes it best when Dogmom sits and watches TV because there’s a warm lap for her to sit on. She likes to be petted, scratched behind the ears, given belly rubs and told what a pretty girl she is. If you are very, very good, she will give you kisses.
Poppy will be glued to your side wherever you go, whatever you do. As I write this, she is standing on an ottoman next to me with her paws perched on my office chair kissing my face and trying to distract me. She is fiercely loyal. She lives in a foster home with 3 other small dogs and gets along with everyone. She is not a good fit, though, for a household with a big dog.
As a 2-year-old, Poppy has all the charms and playfulness of a puppy but also has her manners intact. Poppy doesn’t bark much. She doesn’t chew or destroy things—unless she can get hold of the trash! She loves to go through trash, much to the dismay of Foster Dogmom. She is housetrained, although you should expect to have to work with her as all dogs have accidents when they go to a new house. She does not have food or toy aggression issues.
Poppy can be high-energy, but she’s self-amusing. She’ll leap into the air, run circles, toss around bones to get her energy out. Then she’s ready for a snuggle. She tries to play with the other dogs in the house, but they are seniors. She would be very happy to have a dog buddy.
Poppy would be great in a home or apartment, as a dog for a single or couple, or as a family dog (older children only). She is such a sweet and loving little dog and deserves a home that will cherish her.
Our adoption fee is $225 and includes spay, all shots, heartworm test (she’s negative) and microchip.
