My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET DELILAH. Delilah is a cute little yorkie who is 10 years old and weighs 10.7 lbs. Delilah is being fostered in Orlando, FL

UPDATED BIO 11/19/2019: Hey ya'll - Delilah here. I arrived in my new foster home this past Saturday. The very next day I was invited to this wild and crazy fun-filled shindig with lots of other foster moms and dads. Wow, so many people and even more UYR doggies. I had a great time and met lots of other doggies and people, too. Everybody thought I was beautiful – just sayin’ ………

Before I was sprung out of the shelter, I somehow found myself on the streets. I was taken to Animal Control where they determined that I needed medical help, so they contacted UYR and quicker than a speeding bullet, I was outta there. I'm so happy to be off the streets and have a nice warm bed and really good food to eat. Oh, and a foster mom that loves me and lets me know that I am safe and will never ever be on the streets again.

My foster mom took me to the dogtor yesterday. I was examined, x-rayed and had blood drawn. Yikes! The dogtor says I have three mammary tumors, one as big as a golf ball. So, I'll need to have an expensive surgery. I will also be spayed and have my teeth cleaned at the same time.

Here's what else the dogtor said. I'm a little too thin at 10.7 lbs, so I need to gain a little bit of weight, maybe a half pound to be a healthier weight. My eyes are hazy from being 10 years old, but I do not have cataracts. I have lenticular sclerosis, which is a bluish transparent haze that develops in the lens of the eye in middle-aged to senior dogs. Did you know this happens to senior people, too? This is considered a normal change in the lens associated with aging, so no big deal. My vision may be a little bit impaired, but I see well enough to get around without difficulty. Sometimes, I don't see a hand coming towards me to giving me a pat, and it startles me. It's best to let me sniff the back of your hand first or call my name.

Here’s some wonderful things about me …… my foster mom says I'm a very good girl. I usually let her know when I need to go outside. I'm perfect riding in the car and I walk well on a leash. I am not a barker. I am a pretty good eater. I like to be held, or lie in your lap or be in my bed near you. Do you get my gist? In other words, I love to be with my person all the time. Oh, my foster mom says I snore – who knew? I like other small doggies, but the big ones are kinda scary to me. My foster mom doesn't know if I like cats or not.

My perfect home will have at least one stay-at-home parent. I don't like to be alone for long periods of time. Oh, and I need to let you know this too - No children, please. Foster mom asked me to let you know that if you would like to help with my surgery expenses, please click in the PayPal donation link below. If you donate to me, then that means UYR will continue to be able to take in other little needy doggies like me. Cool, huh?
