Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Rocko is a fun little 14-pound, 4-year old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix who loves to play. He loves squeaky toys—and doesn’t tear them apart! He also loves balls and chew toys. But most of all, he loves other dogs, cats and people. His most endearing quality is that he smiles when he is happy.
In his foster’s backyard, he loves to zoom, zoom, zoom around chasing the other dogs, exploring the yard, and just doing general doggy things. In the house, he will toss his toys up in the air and catch them, or shake them really hard just to show them who’s the boss. If he can get another dog involved in a tug of war, so much the better. He lives in a foster home with five dogs and ten cats, and he gets along with everybody.
While Rocko is active, he is also well-behaved. He is housebroken. He does not chew or destroy anything that is not a dog toy (with the exception of his dog bed, where he chews around the corners). He is not barky at all.
When play time is over, Rocko is ready for snuggles. If you lay him in the crook of your arm like a baby, he will happily let you rub his tummy all day long. He likes to sleep in foster Dogmom’s bed, but he is also happy to sleep in his own bed.
Rocko cannot be crated—he becomes aggressive in a crate. The shelter we pulled him from mistook this for aggression towards men, but we tested this and found that while Rocko takes a day or so to warm up to men, he ends up loving them too.
Rocko would fit well into a variety of situations. He could be a house or apartment dog. He could live with a single or a family (but, older children only). He is a joyous, exhuberant dog and affectionate dog who deserves a much better life than the one he’s had to date.
