My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Wyatt! Wyatt is a two year old pittie mix who weighs 68 pounds. He is a handsome bruiser with subtle tiger stripes on his body, white socks and a big goofy grin.
We are looking for a FOSTER-TO-ADOPT home for Wyatt as he is heartworm positive. Broken Tail Rescue will pay for his heartworm treatment while you provide a loving home. Wyatt is currently undergoing treatment and is really good about taking his medications. The treatment will continue for several more months with injections, pills, a few vet visits and crate rest. By June, Wyatt should be better than ever.

Wyatt is a typical young goofball pittie mix. He's good-natured and energetic and he loves to play fetch, go for walks and play with his toys. He's great in the car and is crate trained. He will have you know that the crate is not his favorite place though. He would much rather be with his people. When crated, he throws a bit of a tantrum at first, barking and crying but then settles down to take a nap. Wyatt loves giving kisses and enjoys a good butt scratch or belly rub. He can be a little demanding but is learning that he only gets petted when he is sitting nicely rather than climbing all over people. He is learning what "Off" means but will need consistency for this to become a habit. Wyatt is highly food motivated and chows his food down in seconds. Probably too fast for his brain to register that he has eaten. This has led to some weight gain.
We've only had Wyatt around small dogs in his foster home and he's been great with them - even when a Chihuahua tried to put him in his place and barked ferociously in his face, Wyatt was unphased. He says "No thanks" to living with cats.

Wyatt has a bit of a hard mouth when taking treats and playing with his toys and has shown some high arousal when he hasn't had enough people time. He is a big guy and likes active play so a home without small children is best. An active family (perhaps some teenagers) who like to hike, jog, or throw a football around the yard would be perfect.

Wyatt is neutered, housetrained, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and negative for Lyme disease. He is hoping to meet his forever family soon so that they can provide comfort and love as he completes his heartworm treatment. The light at the end of the tunnel for Wyatt should be a forever home.

NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
