My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a character!! Diesel is personality plus!! An incredibly darling dog, possibly a Shih Tzu mix, who knows (and does it really matter?!) Born 08/12/2011, Diesel weighs in at eighteen pounds, no fat just solid dog. His handsome silky non-shedding coat is a unique smoke color. He can lift his ears, one or both and point them in different directions, adding to his ability to charm you out of any and all treats! Diesel comes with some basic training; he knows what “no” means and when you call him . . . . HE COMES!! He can sit on command, give paw and loves to play fetch! He will gladly entertain himself with squeaky bouncy toys and watching him is entertaining for the observer as well!! House trained with proper house manners, it is obvious that Diesel has lived in a caring home all his life. Diesel arrived at the Safehouse on 01/30/2020 he came to us from The Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago. His original owner turned him over to them for unknown reasons in August 2019. The shelter adopted him out almost immediately but his new family brought him back in January 2020 because they were moving. When he returned, their medical staff deemed him unadoptable because Diesel had a blind, severely damaged left eye that would require specialized major surgery; they recommended he be turned over to a rescue group. Anti-Cruelty then contacted the Safehouse; no other shelters/rescues were willing or able to accept him. True to our mission to help special needs dogs, Diesel had the surgery to remove his left eye on 02/05/2020 and has recovered without incident. His right eye is normal and fully visual. Diesel will do best in an adult only home. His blind side requires care when approaching or making contact with him. He would prefer to be an only dog; Diesel has a serious issue with big dogs and, although he gets along with small dogs, he would rather not live with one. We don’t know about cats. Healthy, playful and active he will need a home with daily athletic walks but he loves nap time too!! If you are looking for an instant companion, who can settle right in, leave you time for yourself and let you get a good night’s sleep (he’ll gladly share your bed), come meet Diesel. All he wants is a second chance at a loving home. He is awesome and we think it will be love at first sight. Diesel is neutered, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and he has had a complete physical and dental. His adoption fee is $350. (Updated 02/27/2020)
