My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Herding dog Trialed at the USBCHA level on sheep
(360) August 2009

Tess is five years old. She is an extremely well bred spayed female border collie.
Tess's owner has 5 Border Collies and Tess and her older female BC just do not get along. As the older dog ages, it is getting worse. Giving Tess up is extremely hard but her owner feels it is just not fair to her older lady to have to live like this. Tess has never drawn blood but is very threatening. While she likes to bully the boy dogs, she has never shown any real aggression toward them. A home where she is the only dog or there is a more submissive male would be perfect.

Her owner writes:
"Tess is the smartest dog I have ever owned. She is a great dog. I got her at 6 months old. Her previous owner had never had a border collie and did not do a very good job of raising her from a pup. She allowed Tess to push the other dogs around. At some point, someone had put a rubber band around Tess's tail - the scar is still there. Tess learnstricks very quickly. We competed at the pro-novice level in USBCHA herding and has finished some of her novice titles in agility. She will turn herself inside out for you if you ask her. She needs someone to adore just her.

Last year, Tess ruptured her cornea when a piece of bark from our mulch became embedded in her eye. It required surgery. The recovery was very long and Tess never lost her amazing disposition. She has one brown eye and one blue one. The rupture was in her blue one. THere is still a blind spot in the middle of that cornea. She seems to have compensated for it but it seems to have taken a lot of her confidence away in herding. I don't think she will be competitive in USBCHA but with continued work could do the shorter AKC courses. She is not fast in agility but doesn't waste steps either. She always came in under time. I am not sure how much she really likes it so I didn't push it. SHe has also done some tracking and is quite good.

Tess is a great dog in the wrong home. If it weren't for my older bitch and their relationship, I would never consider placing Tess. She loves doing chores with the sheep and curling up next to me. She is totally house broken. I will miss her horribly and am putting my faith in Border Collie rescue to find a great home for her."

Tess would do great in a home where she is the only dog or with a submissive male. She would do wonderfully in a herding home where she could help out. She will only be considered for homes where she will be an inside dog living with her family.
