My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cody is an adorable 3.5-year-old tiny Pomeranian or Pomeranian mix little boy pup. Cody is now the healthy puppy he was meant to be. Cody weighs a little-too-skinny 5 pounds. He should be closer to 5.5 pounds. He is being fostered in Leesburg, FL.

UPDATED BIO 03/01/2020: Little Cody has come so far since he came to his foster home about a month ago. Where once he was timid and scared of people, now he more and more searches out their company and will even begin to engage with his foster parents in a little play. Where once he didn’t eat or ate barely enough to keep him going, now he loves his food and barks and prances around when he knows it is meal time. Where only a few short weeks ago he squealed when anyone would pick him up, now he will stay in his foster mom or dad’s arms or by their side for a longer time. Where once he kept his tail tucked tightly between his legs, now that same tail is up and wagging all the time. Where once he slowly walked around the fenced yard, now he will sometimes break into a little trot. Where once there was a sad little dog, now that dog has been replaced with a much happier, livelier, friendlier little guy.

This little pup who came to us from the shelter at only 4.5 pounds is now over 5 pounds and looking like a healthy tiny puff ball of fur. His UTI is cleared up, he had his neuter, he was microchipped, and he is fully vaccinated. He is a good eater now but still picky with what he will eat. Cody does seem to have a delicate stomach. We have found something he loves to eat. It is a good quality food which comes at a cost. He is also getting a liquid probiotic each evening which has cut way down on the likelihood of him throwing up in the morning when his stomach is empty. Once we understood that he has a delicate stomach possibly caused by his early years of poor nutrition and lack of proper veterinary care we knew he needed the best food and he is well worth the little additional cost.

Cody loves car rides and does great in the car. He will go out to do his business, but we don’t know for sure if he is totally house trained. He walks nicely on the leash, and also enjoys wandering the fenced yard. He was fine when he got a bath and grooming by the professional dog groomer. He enjoys getting brushed and combed, which needs to be done often since he has the Pomeranian undercoat.

Cody is still not always sure of people, and he still may take a little time to understand they will not hurt him. Cody’s trust has to be earned, but it can be earned by a very special person who is ready to give Cody what he needs in a forever home. Cody needs to be an only dog. He doesn’t engage with other dogs at all and would rather they ignore him as much as he ignores them. He needs an adult-only home with a person who is home most of the time to continue to let Cody know that people are good and kind and can be trusted and that it is okay to love them. Cody may not cuddle up to his new mommy and/or daddy right away, but he will once he knows he can trust them. His new person has to understand that Cody may back slide a little, so whoever is lucky enough to adopt this adorable, sweet, wonderful little guy needs to have a heart full of love, understanding and patience. Cody is only 3 ½ years old and he may even be younger. He must have been pretty neglected, and we believe he has had little human interaction in his short life. We believe he experienced a previous life with very little love and care. This little guy was found on the streets, picked up by animal control, brought to the shelter where he waited a week for someone to love him enough to claim him. That didn’t happen and no one ever came for him. Knowing this it is easy to understand that no one loved him or even cared enough about him to look for him and take him back home with them. It is no wonder little Cody is still slow to trust people. If you feel you are the right person to give this little guy what he needs for the rest of his life; if you are ready and willing to continue to give him the love, kindness and care he never had, please submit an adoption application for him. Make this little dog, disguised as a stuffed toy, yours. Cody’s foster parents prefer Cody be adopted in Florida, in the hopefully unlikely event his adopters feel that he is not the right dog for them, due to his possible backsliding.
