My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Before calling about this dog, please read our adoption requirements at http://gsrne.org/requirements-for-adopting-from-gsrne
This beautiful girl likes to keep busy during the day so she can just hang out and keep you company in the evenings. She loves playing with balls of various sizes and types and will usually have one in her mouth or close by. When her foster Mom or Dad reaches for her leash, she’s right there by the door, ready to go….same reaction when the car keys are picked up. If the weather outside is nasty, Topaz will enjoy finding treats that have been hidden around the house and she has fun getting to treats hidden in a puzzle box. She knows how to hold a “stay” at the top of the stairs so her foster Mom can walk down safely before calling her to come down too.
In her first home, Topaz belonged to an elderly woman who had health issues and was not able to do a lot with her. There was a Jack Russell Terrier in the family, and the two dogs enjoyed playing together. After the woman died, a home was found for the Terrier; but Topaz lived alone in the house until the woman’s daughter called GSRNE for help in finding another place for her. The daughter would go several times a day to walk and feed Topaz, but we know it must have been lonely being in the house alone at night.
Her foster parents are semi-retired, so Topaz has someone around most of the time and loves their company. She will stay in her crate, though, when they both have to be away from home at the same time. She gets excited when visitors knock on the door and will bark and try to jump up when they walk in, so she still needs help with minding her manners. There are adult children and grandchildren who visit regularly, and Topaz is now delighted to see them; she knows they’ll join her in some play time outside. In the house, she will sit for treats and has the endearing habit of putting her paws on your leg and sitting quietly while you scratch behind her ears. Her favorite thing, though, is a butt rub; and if you start in the middle of her back, she’ll gradually move forward until your hand is scratching her in the right spot.
If she sounds like a dog you could welcome into your heart, please ask us about Topaz.
