Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is a Courtesy Posting Only: Charlotte Cocker Rescue is not to be held responsible for the health, temperament or vetting needs of this dog. We have agreed to help this rescue owner find a new home for this special needs cocker girl. You must provide a vet reference, fill out an application and the adoption fee will be discussed. If you are approved to adopt, a home visit is required. If you are interested, please send an email message to Niki Marie at oandpdoc@gmail.com.
My name is Lucy and I am looking for a new home. I am a special needs five year old purebred, black cocker spaniel. Life was great until the spring of 2018 when I was running and felt a pain in my back. It hurt so badly, within a day, I wasn't able to move my back legs. The veterinarian told my family that I have a genetic condition called Intervertebral Disc Disease or IVDD for short. This means that there was a part of my back that degraded, injured my spinal cord, and caused me to become paralyzed. The vet said I may or may not regain use of my back legs and only time and rest would tell. I also couldn't feel when I needed to use the bathroom and that was hard for my family because we were all living at the grandparent's house, waiting for an apartment to open up while our new house was being built.
Because I cannot control my bowel or bladder functions entirely, my family decided they couldn't deal with that and didn't want me anymore. Don't get me wrong, I'm super grateful and life with my rescuer has been really good (I do love her) but there are so many of us she needs to take care of that I just don't get the attention I want or need. Most days I spend outside with my friends in a big fenced yard and get to come in when it's really cold or raining. We're all inside every night after we get fed and I wear re-useable/washable designer doggy diapers when I'm inside so I don't make a mess. I miss my kids, my family and being the princess. My rescuer clips me regularly, but I don't get regular doggy spa days or baths and I don't have my pretty cocker cut anymore.
I am dreaming of a family who will take me for walks, lavish me with pretty princess things, take me to the spa, bathe and brush me regularly, and throw the ball for me -especially that. I want to hang out on the couch and watch TV with you and get scratches where I can't reach. I really need a family who understands that what happened to me isn't my fault and I can't help it that I am now a special needs doggie. I eat Purina Pro Plan dog food but not a lot so that I don't gain to much weight. I love other dogs and I do okay with cats.
