My story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

*All applicants must have a vet reference and a fenced yard to be considered.*

Due to no fault of his own, Toi is in a new foster home. Unfortunately for all concerned, he lost his foster daddy and his foster home due to a house fire. He has managed to worm his way into the hearts of his foster parents. He gets along with all of his foster siblings due to a very slow meet and greet. He is doing extremely well and we are so proud of him. Toi is UTD on all vaccinations at this time. He has a voracious appetite and will not miss being in the kitchen under foot while we are cooking.

Toi would love to have a home of his very own where he will get all the attention he deserves. He needs a stable environment with no children in the home. Children tend to move fast and that movement scares Toi.

Hello lucky lottery winner!!!  No— not really a lottery, but you will feel like you have hit the jackpot if I choose you to be my forever home.  So let’s talk about me and see if we could be a family.

My name is Toi.  I am a Min Pin/Chihuahua mix who is 12  years old.  Don’t let that age thing bother you,, I am a medium energy dog who loves walks, zoomies in the backyard with my foster sister and brother and car rides.  My favorite word is Treats!!!

I am a little bit choosey about who I do and don’t like. Foster mom says I need some more “socialization:”- whatever that means.  Hey— do you instantly like everyone you meet?  I bet you don’t.  I choose to think of myself as discerning about who I let into my inner circle!!  But just think how special you will feel when I decide that you are deserving of my trust, snuggles and love.  I didn’t get to meet a lot of people when I was growing up and it takes me a while to let my guard down with new humans. I do best when I am on a leash when new two-leggers come into the house. I can be growly, but if they leave me alone, I leave them alone. I listen to Mom when she tells me “Toi, settle down, don’t be growly, you’re fine”.

My foster home has two other dogs in it, so I have a foster brother and sister who are my best friends.  We love to run around the backyard together, wait for our treats, mealtime and jump into the big bed every morning..  My favorite place to sleep at night is on a chair covered in my blankets in the big bedroom. I need lots of blankets so I can burrow down inside of them!!

Children aren’t really my thing, so foster mom says we are looking for a home with adults only.  And my new family needs to be very experienced with dogs who need a little extra attention, time and patience. Do you know the saying, “good things come to those who wait” or  “patience is a virtue”?  Or how about— just love me for who I am, just like I will love you for who you are and together we will grow and become the best we can be.

Am I a lap dog?  No. Am I going to instantly trust you? No. Am I worth the work you will put into building a relationship with me?  You bet!! And on top of that— I am very handsome.  So maybe it’s okay that I play a little “hard to get”!

This is what I need from my new family:

A big fenced in backyard so I can run and run and run.  At least one other dog to be my bestie and to show me how to be a dog. Someone who can understand that while I love to lay right next to my human, I am not one of those silly lap dogs

who wants to be held like a baby.   Maybe some day, but not right now.  Someone who loves me unconditionally and will take the time to earn my love and trust.

I do not really like men and so I need a Mom in my new home. I have gotten used to my foster Dad- but really need to have my main forever parent be a woman.

Adults who are experienced with dogs who have fear and socialization issues.

And don’t forget about toys— I need lots of toys!! Toys to carry around, toys to throw up in the air, toys to chase— you can never have too many toys!!  But mostly time, love and patience.

So let’s get those applications rolling in and I can pick out my new home!!!  I’m posting some new pics that foster mom took of me and I know they make me look irresistible!!!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

A Promise of Love is a national, internet-based rescue organization that permits adoptions nationally with appropriate documentation. Our animals are fostered in private homes until they are ready for adoption. As such, we do not have a place of business where animals can be visited. If you are interested in a particular animal, please submit an adoption application. Adoption Process Once we receive your application: 1. It is screened for completeness and to assure that the information provided conforms to our basic standards for adopters. This process includes checking personal and veterinary references. 2. The application is reviewed by our Board of Directors who decide whether the application is suitable for further processing. 3. If the application passes step 2, a home visit is scheduled. 4. The Board decides, based on all the available information including our knowledge of the animal and its needs, whether the adopter is a suitable candidate for adopting a particular animal. 5. A signed adoption contract is required for all adoptions before an animal can be released. We require an adoption fee that helps defray the medical expenses we incur on the animal, which include sterilization, vaccinations, dental and other health care. The general range of these fees are $250.00 to $500.00. 6. Arrangements are made for the adopter to pick up the animal, at the adopter€™s expense. If you have questions, please contact us at:

More about this rescue

We are a group of friends dedicated to saving the lives of animals and who are experienced with animal rescue. We exist by a network of caring volunteers, foster homes, and cooperating veterinarians. We are all volunteers who strive to save as many breeder releases, owner surrenders, and animals from high-kill shelters as possible. Our goal is to rescue, provide medical care, socialize, and provide loving foster homes until we match each animal with its carefully screened forever home. Because every animal deserves a promise of tomorrow, and a gift of life.
