My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lily is an AKC registered Labrador Retriever. She is a high energy girl even at 5 years old. She's spent most of her time outside so she's not good at giving cues about when she needs to go potty. She will usually follow you around or go to the door. She adores the water and it's a great way for her to get exercise so a family with a pool or other easy water access would be ideal. She also is a great running partner and can run alongside a bike as well. She does have some resource guarding issues from time to time so out of an abundance of caution, no young kids. She lived with a male husky and she does well with other dogs if they aren't put off by her energy. Slow intros after she's tired work best. She'd be fine as an only dog also.

Now that she's been with a short term foster for 2 weeks, we can share that she's a super sweet girl who really wants to please. However, our foster has noted that she definitely guards her food from other dogs. She is happy to eat in her crate, but even while in there if another dog comes near she will growl. This isn't super uncommon and there are training exercises you can do to reduce or possibly eliminate this behavior but because of this, we aren't feeling she's a great candidate for dog parks or dog beaches because you can't control who's running around with dog treats, etc. Also, her previous owners surrendered her because after 5 years of being in their family, she bit a person which appears to have been related to her trying to protect food from another dog who was fairly new to the home (about 6 months). Because of this, we are discounting her adoption fee so she can find her perfect home.

Currently in need of new foster in So Cal or can be adopted in Southern California or other areas of California for the right adopter. Adoption fee of $350 includes AKC paperwork, spay. core vaccines (DAPP and rabies), microchip, access to training videos. You must complete an application before we are able to accommodate any request for a meet and greet.
