My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zeus is a big sweetheart. He very much likes people and would be totally cool with being an only dog. As I am writing this he just crawled on to my lap and gifted me all the sweet kisses!

Inside, he waffles between being a total couch potato and being very playful! He loves tug of war. He also loves destroying stuffed toys in five minutes.

He knows basic commands like sit and lay down. He loves treats so I think he’s probably very easy to train, and he takes treats very gently. We have been working on some leash training and he’s very good! Because of his size I wanted to get started right away on making sure he doesn’t get too distracted when on a walk and leave me on my butt! So far so good. We also took a walk with a friend of mine (who is about 5”0’) and she could handle him no problem. He’s not looking to get away from his people and often looks back at me while walking to check in which is a great sign!

Speaking of leashes, he was already pretty good on walks on day 1 and is improving every day. He pulls a little when first getting going, but never in a way that I can’t control, and we’ve been working on walking with a loose leash (so he is next to me instead of pulling ahead) with some success already. A harness helps a lot and he’s adjusting to that well. He is generally curious about other dogs but does not pull or bark when he sees them. And this morning a (apparently suicidal) squirrel walked right in front of us on our walk and he pulled a bit; but again, nothing I could not control or redirect. So Zeus is getting high marks for me on city living! I’m in Lincoln Park so my neighborhood is pretty busy with pedestrian traffic these days and he’s been great. And gotten lots of compliments on how handsome he is! He does occasionally want to jump up to say hello to someone, and definitely doesn’t know his size.

He barks a tiny bit indoors if he hears my neighbor coming or going, but it’s short lived and he doesn’t rush the door or anything- just lifts his head up, let’s them know he’s here; and back to his nap!

He is potty trained, as Megan mentioned, and goes very well on leash. I’m not sure about his crate training— it sounds like he didn’t have any before this. I leave it open and he has been curious and gone in and out on his own (a good sign!) but has not hung out in there much. I’m guessing he could be trained (again, this dog LOVES treats) but would also be fine loose or semi-loose like with a baby gate.

ABOUT PEACE 4 PITS RESCUE:
Please note that we do not have a facility or shelter where you can view adoptables. We are a foster-based rescue in Chicago-land, which means that each dog is placed with a family in the area. This allows us to better understand each dog's individual personalities.

You must complete an application before you can schedule a meet and greet with each animal. The application can be found here: http://peaceforpits.org/adoptionfoster-application/ or if you prefer a Word version, download it here: https://goo.gl/bKo84P and email it to p4papplications@gmail.com. Our adoption fee is typically $300 for an adult dog, and $350 for a dog under one year. It includes all vetting and spay/neuter.
