My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Gertie. We think she is a Boxer/Lab mix, 55 pounds, about 1-1/2 years old. She had a home at one point in her young life, but she came off of the street - hungry for weeks, with no tags, no microchip. She is named after Gertrude Kà¤sebier, an American fine art portrait photographer who was one of the 1906 founders of the influential Photo-Secession group
and who is best known for her evocative images of women. Gertie is very gentle and generally well-mannered in our home with all of the humans, the house dogs and our other Foster dog. She is comfortable walking on a leash, crate trained and highly socialized. Her protective nature comes out around male dogs, so we are working on her need to react. Gertie is a quick learner who wants to please.
She really wants attention from humans. She would rather stay in the kitchen 'reading the paper' in the morning, than bolt out the dog
door with the rest of the pack to bark at the neighborhood squirrels. We're still working on counter surfing in the kitchen, but she responds to
basic commands and is learning our house rules. Gertie's extremely playful with the other Foster dog (female) in our home and she can sit and shake...just a sweet girl! She loves the attention of school-age kids and likes to jump up to say hello (yeah, we're working on that, too). If you need a hug, Gertie's your girl. She deserves a lifetime
of love from a committed Companion Family.
