My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

7/13/20:
Foster Sis: “Okay Chloe… we have to introduce you to all your lovey admirers. What do you want to tell them about?”

Chloe Jane: “Ok… Hmmm… I can do this. My name is Chloe. And my doctor says I’m about 12-18 months old. I’ve been here for about a month and I figured out I like a lot of things.”

FS: “Awesome! Great start. What’s next?”

CJ: “When I got here I was not sure what all those funny looking things were. I mean that squeaky sound was OB-NOX-IOUS! But you know I’m starting to figure them out. Especially, now that I’ve figured out how to make them squeak on me own…. OOO! I should show them. BRB….”

*5 minutes later*

FS: “Uhhh… Chloe! Where’d you go?!?”

CJ: “Whoops.. my bad. I’m back. Foster sister showed me how to make ANOTHER sound like a PIG!! So exciting. I was squeaking and snorting and it…”

FS: “CHLOE! Focus.”

CJ: “Right! Where was I??? Ummm.. right.. toys! Also, I like food. Supper time is my favorite! …Well, except for that time you tricked me into eating slower by putting dry food in my wet food. That was SO. RUDE. I did not appreci—“

FS: “Um.. Chloe Bug…. I don’t think anyone finding out how extra you are is going to help your case…”

CJ: “Oh. You’re probably right. What else, what else, what el…. OMG!!! JACQUES IS INSIDE. Time to playyyy….”

FS: *to myself* “Chloe! We aren’t finished!!!! … And you’re gone… Don’t worry Chlo, I’ll finish this alone.”

Hey y’all! So, as you can probably tell, Chloe Bug does not have the best attention span. I mean we blame it on the fact she is still a puppy and the energy level is high, but patience is a trait we have extended all around the household – lol. Chloe goes by several names… Chloe Jane, Chloe Bug, Chlo Chlo (not that she has really figured out what they mean). We have been working steadily since we picked her up to teach her- which is why all of her nicknames are redundant on the first syllable- but we are still working on it. Again, with the high energy and short attention span, it can be a challenge to get her to focus long enough on commands. However, like any Boxer, Chloe is bullheaded and stubborn and headstrong (yes, they all mean the same thing- but it’s important to stress), so she will need a family that will guide and command with a firm hand.

We do not know much about her backstory, but we have seen some resource guarding (we just remind her “no ugly faces”) and reaction to men- so she will need males around her to be aware of that and just move slowly and give her time to warm up (it doesn’t take too long for her to figure out who will be a friend – especially when treats are involved). Chloe is also close to being fully potty trained. We are thinking she was used to being in an area with access to outside or 24/7 outside time. So, she is on every 4-hour schedule, except bed time (we potty her around 10pm and she is good until 6am). As for crate training- it’s a work in progress. She doesn’t have anxiety around a crate, but she honestly prefers not to be in one. She will fight me going into the crate. I usually have to physically carry her to the crate and lure her in with a treat. Once she is in, she is fine. It’s just getting that far.

We do recommend a crate, because even with toys and bones and foster siblings, that short attention span means anything becomes a toy. Remotes, pillows, books, and toys have fallen victim to Chloe’s hyperactivity. She also thinks she is sneaky about getting into trash – even though we see her, so while we were gone, originally, we sequestered her to a room with our resident boxer.

Chloe has many likes! Toys, bones, cow hooves, toys, peanut butter, treats, human food, dogs to play with, peanut butter, bones, peanut butter, and then more peanut butter. She has done really well with our resident Yorkie and our resident boxer. She plays well with every dog we have introduced her to. She also is good with kids of all ages. Just keep in mind, she is a baby and does not know her size and strength, even though she loves little ones. The other thing that is Chloe’s favorite is cats. We have 3 resident cats here. And she thinks they are the best toys ever. Even though 2 of them could not care less about her existence. At first, she would “pancake” them to the floor, but has learned how to play with Jacques without hurting him and they really could play for hours together. She also makes this really cute sound that reminds us of chimpanzees – I have tried so many times to get a video of it, and she stops right as I’m pulling my phone out- when she is playing with them or wants their attention.

Chloe is an absolute goofball and always keeps us laughing. Again, she is high energy and will need space to run out that energy – with training she may be a good running buddy, but A) she would want to stop and smell every flower and B) we don’t run here. She also has great protective instincts of her house and family – so forewarning, she may alert you to the raccoon outside the house, or the deer, or even her own reflection in the window. Even at 3am  We have been working on training with basic commands, but they are hit-or-miss most days so while we will continue to work on them, she will need her family to pick that up once she gets to her new home.

Chloe Jane: “Hey sis! I’m back! Where were we?”

FS: “Uh, well Chloe. I took over and finished it.. so I guess just say bye…”

CJ: “Aw, thanks! This means more playtime! Awesome! Oh right, bye computer people.. see ya on the flipside!”

6/7/20: Welcome Chloe Jane to CBR. She is good with dogs, cats, and kids. More to come as she gets settled into her foster home!
