Our hearts went out to Willow when we first heard her story. At 3 years old, she had lost her original home due to the health issues of the couple who had purchased her as a puppy. A relative had been taking care of her but had to leave her crated while at work so she wouldn’t get into anything and get hurt. With no fenced yard, her only time outside was about 30 minutes tied out in the evening. We had no foster home available but couldn’t leave her in that situation, so we did her evaluation and then moved her to a boarding kennel. She had four group play sessions a day and proved to be a very energetic and active girl! While she was there, we were able to have her spayed at the veterinary hospital right next door.
Willow has completed eight weeks of her recovery period following the TPLO surgery and needs two more weeks of gradually increasing her activity level. Fortunately, her foster parents have an inground swimming pool and were able to borrow a ramp to make it safe for Willow to get into and out of the pool. The first time she went in, she seemed quite perplexed by finding herself in the water, but they had a life jacket on her and her foster Dad walked right next to her. She did two laps and then wanted to get out, but she's now staying in, retrieving toys, swimming for fun and burning off some of her energy safely.
We are looking for someone who will help Willow through the next four weeks, either as a foster parent or foster-to-adopt parent.
If you’ve been keeping up with our Facebook page, you’ll know that Willow came to us with a partially torn ACL in her left hind leg. While we were making plans to get that taken care of, she completely tore the ACL and meniscus in her right hind leg, causing her intense pain and requiring immediate surgery.
We are now looking for a new foster home, or better yet a foster-to-adopt home for Willow. Someone who is willing to help her through her next surgery, and hopefully be her forever home.
