7/5/20: Foster is one of the sweetest, gentlest dogs to ever come through these doors.  He is a mellow, happy, and laid back guy. He is just about the perfect dog. He would be fine as an only dog, but life is easier if he has a playmate to take cues from.

Around here he has been dubbed the “White Shadow” —he follows you everywhere. Never go to the bathroom alone again!

He is not a fan of crates, but tolerates it once he’s in. He isn’t destructive, so a crate isn’t an absolute necessity. He would rather be where his people are, though.

He has a high prey drive, so no cats or other small, furry critters. He is great with other dogs. He has not been kid tested yet, social distancing won’t allow it, but he should be good with children of all ages.

If your heart is in the right place and you are considering adopting a deaf dog, you can’t go wrong with Foster, but you seriously need to consider the following questions before you do:

Are you tone deaf but still love to sing loudly?
This is the dog for you.

Do your aspirations to be a musician exceed your ability?
This is the dog for you.

Do you neighbors think that every day is the Fourth of July?
This is the dog for you.

Do you live beside an artillery range and worry that it would stress a normal dog out?
This is dog is for you.

Do you need to spill your guts but don’t want anyone to know your secrets?
This is the dog for you.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, this may be the dog for you.

Let’s face it. We all know that Boxers have selective hearing anyway. The fact that he’s actually deaf just makes more sense when he doesn’t listen to you. Otherwise, Foster is just like any other dog that is full of love and snuggles.

6/8/20: Hi. Foster here.  Now that I’ve been with my foster family for a whole week, I’ve learned a few things....crates are good, cats are very interesting but also ok.  I just have to get used to them. Dogs are good if they enjoy playing a lot! I love rubs and attention from my people. I just want to be near them. I don’t much care for dominant personalities.  I like all people. Small and large. I am learning that it’s ok to be on a leash, too!  Fun things happen with walks!

I’ve been to the vet and had a good check-up! Just a little conjunctivitis that we are treating.  I am learning that lifting my leg to mark is not something that my people like.  I’m doing better!  I’ve still not soiled my crate once!!

6/3/20: Hi everyone!  So, I’m one of the new guys here!  Today has been long and stressful...a lot of new things that I don’t understand. I’m really nervous, but the people seem friendly. I got a nice long bath. I really liked that! “Houses” are nice, but “crates” are not my thing at all. I’m going in there but I’d prefer not. Maybe I’ll learn to love it.  I’ve seen the resident dogs and cat but right now we can’t spend time together.  We had a brief interaction and I just wanted to hump. They didn’t like this at all!  After some down time, I think the people will start slowly letting us visit.

They have given me a name!  “Foster”. Yeah, I know y’all are thinking.... how original is that name...but I like it because I will share a name with a famous deaf person.  Since I’m deaf too, my foster family thought it was a great fit!

More to come...just wanted to say hi! I go to the vet next week to check these weepy eyes, and plan for something called “neuter”. Sounds fun, doesn’t it?!

6/3/20: Welcome the handsome deaf boy.
