This is Nikki, a beautiful 7 year old greyhound/shepherd mix. She came one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet so long as you are a human! This girl loves people and demands almost nothing in return. Her previous owner passed away and Nikki needs someone to love her as much as she will love you.
Nikki is the ultimate companion and wants to be with people all of the time. She is happy going for a walk and also laying on the couch. She does get sad when her people leave home, and has separation anxiety. She has been at a positive reinforcement board and train, working closely with a trainer so she can understand that a large, comfy crate can be a safe place when her humans aren’t home. She is making progress, but is still not a fan of the crate. Additional training will be provided at no cost to help Nikki make a happy transition to her new home. She knows her basic commands and walks well on a Gentle Leader head collar.
Nikki will benefit from daily walks, but is not particularly high energy. She likes to hang out with her people and sometimes play with plushie toys. She will do best with someone who is home a lot that wants a constant companion. Nikki should be an only pet, no other dogs or cats. She has shown aggression toward small dogs in the recent past, so a home with no furry temptations is a must.
Nikki has been at a positive reinforcement board and train facility for many months, and is ready to find a foster home. If you are interested in providing Nikki a soft place to land, please complete our foster application which can be found on our website: www.roversretreat.org

We rescue dogs and place them in foster homes until they are ready for adoption. We vaccinate, spay/neuter, microchip, and provide any additional care such as surgery or rehabilitation. We help each dog get ready to be placed in a happy forever home.
Potential adopters are asked to complete an online adoption application and may be visited by one of our volunteers to do a home interview. We aim to find the best fit for each dog's needs.
Our adoption fees range between $400-$1,000 for domestic dogs and those from Mexico. Dogs are assigned an adoption fee based on several factors such as age, breed, health and behavior, amongst others.
For our international dogs from overseas, adoption fees range $800-$2,000. International adoption fees are higher due to the travel and boarding costs, as well as the above-mentioned factors for domestic dogs. These dogs stay in their country of origin for weeks, or sometimes months, prior to being able to travel.
