My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chena (pronounced "Shayna") is a 1.5 year old BC mix girl surrendered Sept 5th to rescue.

Do you love a dog full of go go go?? Well, Chena’s got all that, and then some. This 1 ½ year old BC mix could give the Energizer Bunny a run for his money. With a look all her own and weighing in at under 30 pounds, adorable little Chena is a lot of dog in a little package!!

Chena came to WBCR as an owner surrender. Her previous owners adopted her from a kill shelter in CO and discovered that this girl has energy to burn ..and burn…and burn. Her high energy was more than they could handle and asked us to take her in.

Chena IS a high energy dog. She basically has two speeds – full tilt and off – with a ground eating trot that is almost tireless. Her former owners exercised her by having her run alongside them during bike rides. She is also very athletic, clearing jumps and going under or over any obstacle in her way. Agility, anyone?? She can climb,
too, but so far hasn’t challenged the 4 foot fence at her foster home.

Super friendly Chena meets and greets new people happily, is good with other dogs, and is verrrry playful with them. A home with another active and playful dog is a must! She is a herdy girl, likes to play a bit rough, and fires up easily, so she isn’t suitable to sharing a home with kids, small dogs, or cats (unless they are dog-savvy). Chena hasn’t learned about toys and doesn’t show much interest in fetching anything, so with her high energy, she’ll need a home that can take her running or biking or some other energy consuming activity.

Chena is also deaf - but don’t think that slows her down any!! She knows several hand commands already (sit, down, “no”, good girl, “enough”, come, go out) and eagerly is learning new ones (watch me, settle down, shake, stay, and even high five!!). Chena has learned to keep an eye on her person – though she can get distracted and stray a bit (making that “come here” a bit difficult), she will eventually look up to see where you are and come running. Chena doesn’t startle easy when she is sleeping, but won’t rest easy unless she is touching you…very endearing. If you are interested in adopting Chena, her WBCR foster will teach you the signs Chena knows or is learning. In addition, there is a wealth of information about living with a deaf dog through the Deaf Dog Education Fund website at www.deafdogs.org.

Chena will also need a home that can establish boundaries and who will help her continue to develop an “off” switch, something her foster home is also working on. This little busybody is sure to charm the pants off of those of you who love the super quick, very bright, and super alert members of the breed. If you have the energy, this girlie will certainly keep up with you, and reward you at night with a kiss and a cuddle. If you love the little firecracker types who just won’t quit, Chena could just be the girl for you!!

Chena is spayed, fully vetted and living in a loving foster home near Casper, WY.
