My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 09/13/2009: Hobie is a beautiful 6 year old 9.2 lb Yorkie boy. Hobie is recovering from a wound on his back, likely from matted hair pulling on the skin for a long time. His wound is almost completely healed, and he will be having his teeth cleaned this week. Hobie is a doll. Once in a while, in rescue, you get a foster who really tugs at your heartstrings. Hobie is that kind of special boy. He smiles at you, is loving, is housetrained, walks well on a leash, and really wants a home for his very own. He's just such a sweetheart. We know there's a special home out there who will answer Hobie's prayers - a home that will never neglect him the way he was when he came into rescue.

If you have questions about Hobie, email his FM. Once you look into his big beautiful brown eyes, your mind will be made up for you!

UPDATED BIO 09/07/2009: Hobie saw the vet last week who had WONDERFUL news for Hobie. It turns out the vet thinks Hobie is only 6 years old, not 8 years as originally thought. He's 9.2 lbs. The vet was very concerned about the wound on his back and was worried that the injury could have been caused by a bite, by his severely matted hair, or worse - by a burn. She wasn't sure, and we'll likely never know what horrors Hobie experienced before being saved by UYR.

Hobie is being fostered in Miramar, FL. He is a DOLL, and foster mom has fallen head-over-heels in love with him. Hobie has a very endearing quality... He smiles! Yes, that's right. Hobie smiles when you talk to him in a happy voice. He is a darling, is housetrained, doesn't bark much (though we don't promise that won't change!), and he likes other dogs. He would chase a cat if given the chance. Hobies LOVES going for walks. This little pumpkin is going to snatched up really quickly. As soon as Hobie's teeth are cleaned, he'll be ready to be adopted! Don't pass up this cutie patootie! He's a special one.

Initial Bio 08/31/09: Meet Hobie. He's approximately 8 years old and weighs 9.2 lbs.... and he's one of the most pathetic dogs I've ever rescued.

When Hobie was rescued, he was was covered in matting..... to the skin.... from everywhere from his neck to his legs. He had such bad matting on his back that he has two large open sores that weren't immediately evident when I went to get him today. You see, when hair is so badly matted, it pulls at the skin (like a braid or ponytail that's too tight and starts to hurt). Well, it pulled his skin right off. He must have been miserable. Our last stop after he accompanied me on my errands was to Petco. They squeezed him in, shaved him down and gave him the cutest little haircut. He sat so patiently waiting for it to be over. I had a real emotional moment watching him transform through the salon window. I almost cried. It was very moving (and cheesy, I know). I know this is why we in rescue do what we do, but it gets me every time.

A little about Hobie... He LOVES his walks. He's like a speed-walker, like he has somewhere to go. At home, he's relaxed and likes to sit near me, wherever I am. He is on antibiotics for his sores and will be needing a dental. He has all his teeth, and it's not likely that he'll lose any. Oh yeah, Hobie appears to be 100% housetrained!
