My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm ROCKY and I’ve been with my foster family for a month now and I think they are ALL my favorites. I love getting cuddles and treats, and have learned to sit and lie down to earn them. I come when I'm called and enjoy cuddles and tummy rubs. I am very unique looking with a coat that looks like a tiger! I am well mannered and don't jump up on people. I'm perfectly house trained and sleep all night long next to my foster mom. She thinks my snoring is very cute! My family has taught me to sit for a treat and to be patient when my food bowl is being filled. I am fascinated by squirrels and will bolt to chase one any chance I get. I am a little shy and cautious when I meet new people but as soon as I get to sniff them and receive a pat, I'm fine. I would do best in a home with no cats because of my chase instinct. No young kids in my home please. I'm a very strong boy and I will pull on my leash if there is something good to smell. I have lunged and barked at a few dogs on my walks but I have also greeted and played with some as well. My family is still assessing my socialization with other dogs. No apartments for me as I need space to run and play. I certainly don't mind being the only dog at home - I love humans a lot! If there was another dog in my furever family, we would have to make sure we get along first.

My foster family has figured out that I do have fear around new people and situations, and may become guarded when this happens. My foster family is working with a behaviourist to help condition me to relax in these situations. I will need a family who understands that I can show guarding behaviour when I am scared and be willing to work with me. I get along with every dog I meet, but sometimes I come on a bit too enthusiastically. I notice my dog friends' cues when I'm being too friendly or playful and am learning to respect their boundaries. I would love to have another dog sibling to play with but will also be happy as long as my human family gives me lots of opportunities for chasing, running, playing and walking.

As I am getting more comfortable with my humans, I have chewed a couple of shoes when they were not looking. My family replaces the off limits toys with ones I am allowed to gnaw, and has put the shoes away. I can't wait to be part of your family and give you all of my love and affection!
