My story

Max is a sweet Russian blue cat, with a hard past and a bright future.

Max was a half house cat, half street cat when his rescuers picked him up. They had been seeing him for months, always trotting after them or other neighbors. He quickly fell in love with their 7 year old girl. Come the winter, they noticed that Max's disposition was changing for the worse. After a few weeks, they found him again and his owner said she was moving so she had put him on the street so he could get used to that. Once inside, Max got sick. His poor body was only surviving so once inside he was safe enough to get sick and HEALTHY.

Max is still learning how to be a good kitty. He has come a long way. He used to attack a leg when he wanted to play, and now he knows to use a soft paw.  When he first came inside, toys scared him---now he has a dangerous addiction to playing. He loves wand toys, learning how to self play and try to steal cheddar cheese!!

Max would do best with an experienced adopter as his moods change quickly when he is unsure of himself. He has some separation anxiety (clearly, he never knew when he was going to put outside or left alone indefinitely).  Max wants to be part of his kitty foster brother's and sister's lives, but has not fully figured out how to interact yet. He can go to a home with another cat, but it must be a patient kitty who's good and tolerant with other cats.  He is usually in the room with his family, though not fully committed to cuddling. Some days he snuggles and other days it is enough that he is just in the room with  you.

He likes children (he loves his 7 year old girl). So a family with older children who are on the quieter side might be best for him.

Max is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Interested adopters first fill out an adoption application, after which they can visit our animals in their foster homes. If they would like to adopt and their application is approved, they then complete an adoption contract. We also ask for an adoption fee to help us continue our work.

Go meet their pets

Please email us at adopt@brooklynanimalaction.org or contact the e-mail in the individual listing if you are interested in meeting one of our rescued animals. We hold Saturday adoption events at Unleashed by Petco in Park Slope and Petsmart on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn (check our website and Facebook page for more information) and have cats at Bushy Tails pet store in Bushwick and Petsmart.
