My story

Say hello to happy Mr Sumo, it's a rare occasion for this boy to not have a smile on his face :)

Sumo is a mild mannered 5 year old german shepherd looking for his FUREVER HOME, he loves to be out and about and go on adventures and would make an excellent hiking or walking partner for a moderately active person. But he is also happy and content when enjoying his down time indoors, he loves to lounge and catch some ZZZ's or cuddles until he hears his leash get picked up for the next trip to the great outdoors ;)

Sumo is good with other mellow dogs of any size, we are looking for an adult home with a caring person or couple that is experienced with german shepherds/working dogs and can give Sumo the true loving home he so deserves! Could that be you??? Well don't wait too long to submit an inquiry on Sumo, it's not often an easy going german shepherd that's house broken, crate trained, and not a jumper is in search of a new place to call home :)

Additional adoption info

The adoption process at OC Shelter Pets is relatively simple. We require an application and a home visit by one of our dedicated OC Shelter Pets volunteers. Once your application and home visit is reviewed by our Board, you will be notified in writing of our decision.

The team at OC Shelter Pets reviews all adoption and foster applications and if approved will notify you and reach out to you over the phone to discuss potential dogs that will fit the needs of your home as well as our adoption fees. Please note that all adoption fees go towards the care of our rescued animals, all animals are spayed/neutered prior to being adopted and current on all vaccines.

We need all family members available for the home visit for any potential adopters or fosters. This gives us a chance to talk about rescue, learn about your lifestyle and your expectations for your rescued animal. If you have existing pets, this gives us an opportunity to meet them as well. We will also check the home to ensure it is safe for the animal, we will check the backyard area, gates, fences and screen doors (if applicable).

Upon approval, we will start reaching out to our foster homes and describe your situation and what dog we believe will best fit your home. We will also look within the dogs at OC Shelter Pets Headquarters and determine who best fits your home dynamics. We will then coordinate a time for you to meet the dog. Please be patient as this is an "adoption process" and we want to ensure that our dogs are successful in their forever homes.

OC Shelter Pets will take back any animal that is adopted out, per the adoption agreement - the animal will automatically be taken back into rescue and the adopter will be in violation of the agreement if the animal is taken to a shelter or given away.
