My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Wilma, an adult dog with a heart as big as her personality. Her curious nature is endearing, as she loves exploring her surroundings, yet she's always ready to snuggle up for a good cuddle. Wilma is sweet and friendly, warming up to everyone she meets with her gentle demeanor. She may not be the type to seek attention, but she absolutely loves it when she gets it. As a loyal companion, she's always on the lookout, loving her role on 'watch patrol'. Playful and full of life, Wilma has a way of brightening up any room she's in. Despite her love for fun, she also has a calm side, making her the perfect balance of playful and peaceful. The best thing about Wilma? She's ready to give all her love to a family that will cherish her. Adopt Wilma and experience the unconditional love and joy that only a pet like her can bring.

Wilma is also eligible for foster care, sign up to foster here! https://forms.gle/oknYBjKJVYuQyb3D7

More about this shelter

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For over fifty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate a resale shop located in Steger, Illinois that promotes our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

The Mission of the South Suburban Humane Society is to protect and promote the well being of pets and their people in our community and beyond.
